i agree 110%. its not the best by far, but its definitley the best. its so out of the box. i told someone who didnt liek rap it was on a rap cd and they were blown away…and then went and copped the cd.

^ I’m ashamed to admit, but I never really got into the Quik’s Groove series…only cuz I’ve always leaned towards his uptempo stuff…thanks to this post, tho, I’ll have to re-familiarize myself…
but “Let’s Get Down”, his collabo with Toni Tony Tone is one of my faves
he’s definitely not no GarageBand producer…Quik’s sound is dope cuz he implements live instrumentation, so there’s a true musicianship feel in his tracks…it doesn’t sound robotic or impersonal

me too actually. but it’s just my personal preference. i dont necesarily think it;s better.
92% of QUIKs musical catalog is better than 100% of most producers catalog IMO. it’s so diverse.

I feel mad stupid for sleeping on these when they’ve been in my collection (actual CD’s AND on my iPod) for YEARS.
Yeah, I wouldn’t say his other more known stuff is better than the Quik’s Grooves, I was just never in the mood to listen to them….now I am. I’d prolly be more inclined to listen to this stuff now.
As far as comparing Quik to Dre…I dunno, to me it’s like apples and oranges, I can’t say that I’m qualified to say who’s better, but I think Quik has more range, and if that makes him better, then it is what it is.
On another note…Every producer has their era where they’re “on”… I think some of my favorites: Dre, Premier, Quik, Neptunes, Just Blaze…are currently “off”, like their time has passed. Is it cuz they’re not putting work out there….? This new crop of motherfuckers just don’t do it for me man
^ Neptunes are working on the N.E.R.D. album right now, and their touring… Quik just laced Snoop’s album with some heat… surprised you missed that… Primo shows up in spurts (always has), Just Blaze it gettin’ it poppin’ with Marsha from Floetry and still pushing that Saigon album, and Dre….. well…. with an album almost 20 years in the making…. shiiiiiit, that joint has to be the hotness whenever it gets released.
