Wale. Skyzoo. Illmind. All three have made some noise individually but combined it looks like the future of Hip-Hop is in good hands. Yes, it may be too early to solidify any one of them into a definitive chapter in Hip-Hop history, but you can’t deny that all three are in the running.

This was a definitely a pleasant surprise as I stumbled on this while checking out the Myspace page. After getting pissed about Rupert Murdoch induced spam, I check Illmind’s page as he posted a flyer for a new gig. I look to the right on the jukebox and see “Lyrically Inclined” flash over the jukebox ticker.

Taking a listen, Illmind so easily could have given this joint to 50. The driving drum pattern, the looped synths and snares had Curtis’ name all over it. Instead the new jacks take over the track and I’m easily optimistic. The thing with both guys is simple – they spit street shit but the verses are focused. Wale got that flow you follow with the nod but then rewind – there’s lyrics in all that rhythm. Sky unsurprisingly whips up another good hook while his technical skills remain up to par.

Skyzoo said it himself, “The freshest of the freshmen in here.” All I can say is this is a sign of good things to come.
