“Let Us Pray…”
AUDIO By Gotty™ on April 29, 2008 at 8:22 pmPrime example of why Drew says rappers don’t need to get involved.
But I digress.
David D. expressed a need for our artists to use their voices to make sure our generation & Hip-Hop itself was heard. I’ll spare you my full opinion, but I just wonder what the hell a song is going to matter to a judge & a few attorneys.
I told Drew earlier that I wouldn’t complain because I’m truly one to look for ways to strike a match, rather than damn the dark. The question is, where do we start?
I guess a song is something after all…

Do You Want More ?!!!??!
i don’t care whut his message is… i can’t get past the reverse minstrel show character look…
actually, Organix was The Roots’ first album, anyways…
I could argue both sides…
a song can help to raise awareness…but some of these songs are preaching to the choir…it’s important to reach those who are unaware
a song can also be therapeutic, a release, a catharsis
or a tribute
sometimes that’s the least one can do, y’know?
There’s a pic floating around of ?uestlove rockin’ a sweatshirt with “Not Guilty??!!” silkscreened on the front.
I’mma do the same.
not on some hip, fashion-forward hypebeast shit. that would be absurd.
but when I see people rocking pink ribbons, yellow ribbons, or whatever color ribbons to raise awareness, show support or solidarity for whatever, we need to do the same for Sean Bell.

Check out this definition of Eli Porter:

I thought Game was retired. Saw him in Waist Deep. Want my 90 minutes of oxygen back.
Seeing Game rock the Dead Presidents-Juggalo look makes me hope the guy is shooting a video or something.
There’s no platinum profits in being socially or politically relevant even if you’re dope.
Those were good definitions and all, but no mention of the bisexual bridal shower? It was a fucking BISEXUAL BRIDAL SHOWER! What would Rosie O’Donnell think?
The Game needs to get his facts straight, (1) it’s Ba- ROCK not Ba-RACK, (2) Hillary isn’t the first female presidential candidate, that honor belongs to Miss Victoria Woodhull back in 1872. Just speakin the truth.

I want CDQ so i can put it in the car.
damn alicia looking fine on letterman right now, i suggest yall put it on
…maybe just as important as the right rappers speaking up is the right rappers shutting the fuck up.
there about 20+ years late for the dead presidents casting
lol niggas holdin my man eli down!
^ I got the cat on the grill, see
I think Game is saying some good things.
I got dental
I got pedistol
I got dent on the grill
Game is an idiot. Flat out.
Joell Ortiz went off on 50 shots!!
I’mma have to take him more seriously now.
The makeup shouldn’t take away from the message.
when I watched the 106 and park all I could think of is why is it always mos and kweli? Why is it always nas? It’s like how Bun B showed up in Jena and Mos was the only other MC there. Game is just a regular guy like all of us, not some political genius, but he took the time to record a song paint up his face and address people he may affect.
Questlove seems like the most mild mannered dude in the world but his statements were about as angry as any I’ve seen on the sean bell verdict.
We would expect Dead Prez to come out on this but where are our heroes?
And as far as the attacks on Nas, KRS ONE or Game or anybody else trying to say something about something that’s worth talking about. It reminds me of a line from Minor Threat’s In My Eyes
“You say, I make no difference
But atleast I’m Fucking Try
What the Fuck have you done?”
When will we stop being so helpless and try do do something real?
