Somebody was asking for this yesterday and it reminded me of the first time I really heard the song.

By a random occurrence, I happened to meet Jack while he was in the studio working.

On the surface, the only way to describe him is to say he’s bubbly, eccentric, energetic & “Hollywood” like a motherfucker lol. You see him with the mirrored sunglasses & blown-out hair. He speaks with complete confidence, so much to the point where you think he’s arrogant when you pair it with some of the other attributes he has.

But once you start listening to him talk about music, you realize he knows his craft. Jack is truly one of those people who’s in love with the art, immersed in all the various genres and bent on blending the lines that might separate them & willingly breaking those same lines if he has to.

As he rattled off names of those whose projects he was working on, including some with frequent collaborator Cee-Lo. Then he said, “Let me play you a few tracks that we’ve been working on” and let them ride, I was floored.

Laid the fuck out.

I can’t recall every single one, but I do remember one of them being “Right Now,” which wasn’t in rotation for too many. (The other tracks? I was sworn to secrecy lol). But this one was one of the more remarkable ones, especially heard @ full blast on a proper soundsystem. Full-on 70′s sound, Cee-Lo casually wailing over the bounce of the beat.

Jack Splash & Cee-Lo Green – Right Now

It appeared on the ATL soundtrack and also on a three track promo item that came with the Gnarls Barkley album. (If anybody has the other two tracks, holler @ me.)

End story.

Sorry for the ramble.

Trust though – add it to the playlist, let the windows down & ride. Or maybe cue it up @ your next BBQ and two-step. Either way, certified soul.
