Collie Buddz

Dancehall was a fad from 2003 to 2004.”

Regardless of how true that statement is, there are still some decent “authentic” reggeton dancehall artists out there with a lasting sound. One who’s been flying under the radar for a while now is Katrina victim Collie Buddz. Collie has been on the underground scene since about 2006, but it wasn’t until he was signed to Sony and dropped that summertime hit “Come Around.”

His buzz from “Come Around” died down, but he stays making tracks. Some may remember him on the Greatest Rapper Alive Mixtape 4, “You Ain’t Know”. But a track that shines still today is “Mamacita.” It’s got club potential, mainstream playability, and is just a feel-good song. Early this year Collie Buddz released “Tomorrow’s Another Day”, from his self-titled album. The song puts one of the Marleys in your mind with the rapping-singing Jamaican style and reggae drum-line. With perfect production, this track just works well with Collie’s wailing and occasional falsetto.

You don’t have to like reggae to know good music. Collie Buddz is new to the game, and he already is making memorable music. His debut album has substance, and his cameos show the support he has. We will be hearing more from him in the near future.
