In perhaps a more detailed look at the reasons behind the actual sale of physical CDs, this article reports that a traditionally key group – teenagers – simply aren’t buying music in stores anymore. One kid put it best - “CDs are a lot of money for the amount of music I like.”
Weighing the options – iPod filled brimming stolen/free audio wares vs. saving the weekly allowance to go buy two cds…no-brainer.
To all of this, a Capitol Records exec said…
“There are a lot of free Internet sites where you can access music and there’s just advertising on the site. Is that the wave of the future? I’m not sure, but we’re looking at all of these as possibilities and we are open to trying to find a business model that works for everyone.”
Note to said exec – We’ll accept your ad money bruh. Hit me on the hip.

1st??..Cheers cunts
I used to be the guy that would go to the record store every tuesday to check the new releases and, when i had the cash, usually buy at least a cd or two…this was before, during and after the “napster” era…but then, seemingly simultaneously, record execs started suing file downloaders and music started to kinda suck (at least the kind i listen to)…so i basically made a conscious decision to only buy official releases from my favorite artists, and otherwise just download hot singles and buy mixtapes…that lasted a while…now i have sites where i can get mixtapes and albums free, and record execs are still missing the point and going after consumers…so i download almost everything and every once and a while i throw my favorite artists a bone a buy a hard copy…it’s a shame but i refuse to support an industry that wants to sue me
Whatever kid they asked hit the nail on the head.
and by ‘deli sandwich’ i mean a dub of that fiyaaah + the subsequent and oh so necessary munchies.
yo momma
Word @ Jimmy…I was just bout to say:
Option F: Bag of that good
But realistically, save for gas
or for you parents out there:
Pampers
Enfamil
etc.
the cash I’ve spent on music in my lifetime could’ve been used to pay for a Benz or a down payment on a house…
the FBI/RIAA? Man, they can go fuck themselves with an AIDS-infected dildo, eat a nice hot bowl of shit, jump off a bridge in front of a freight train and shoot themselves in the head on the way down…dumb motherfuckers always going after us little people…
It’s sad, but I’m a casualty of this digital era. I’m 17 and most of my CD cases are filled with bootlegs, I have a few CDs that are the real deal (Midnight Marauders, Lifestylez Ov Da Poor And Dangerous, Moment of Truth) but I’ll say 95% is fake. But, once I get my gwop up I’m definitely buying all of the CDs that I bootlegged plus a few more. Right now I’d rather spend my $20 on a good meal or a few parties than for a CD.
back then, the coin I dropped on music was WAY worth it.
Now? HAHA, don’t make me laugh…
Things were better then, that’s why they call it the Golden Era…
Thanks for enabling me TSS!
I used to go to the record store after every paycheck. But alot of the shit I bought I wasn’t feelin it. I would buy everything that I thought was good, but was disappointed. I think I was the only dumbass that bought KaySlay’s Streetsweeper’s Mixtape that he released through a label.
The last cd I purchased that’s still on steady rotation in the ride is Stillmatic.
But that’s just me.
It’s the same way with books…i walk around a bookstore and see a few titles by my favorite authors or shit i’ve read an article about…cover prices are like 15 bucks for paperback, 25-30 bucks for hardcover…nah, nevermind, i’ll just go on amazon and buy a used copy for like 2 bucks…it sucks cuz i know these kinds of things are gonna be the downfall of at least a few “coulda been great” artists
ppl been sluffin on that snoop (unedited), where ya’ll at?
thank god for that whiiiiiiitte!
What the teen said is what I’ve been saying since like.. 2003. I aint buying a new CD until it’s worth all of $20 dollars. I’m not into wasting 20 bucks on 2-3 songs. But, what I’ve found is, you can get very good CD’s from the 90′s for usually like 11 bucks @ f.y.e. unless it’s from like Pac or BIG. Like I went over there the other day, and copped OutKast’s ATLiens, and Aquemini, as well as Nas’s first 3 CD’s..

Hi…
My name is one.eye.deer., and I was a junkie…
1st time I remember getting burned by a WACK CD was with a brand new, steamy Craig G retail CD.
After that I was, or must have been burned more than the waiting room of the free clinic…
pass the ointment…
I’m still in recovery…
Thanks TSS
excuse me tape
Craig G tape to………present = more $$$ than I ever care to know
Thanks for enabling me TSS!
-=======
You’re welcome.
i’ll just go on amazon and buy a used copy for like 2 bucks
============
I’ve so been on my amazon book grind lol. a few weeks ago, I bought 6 books for about $35 shipped (hardbacks included). Dumb happy lol
I think the bigger question may be – What was the last CD you bought?
Moi? Get Back.
The last option in the poll should’ve been:
A 3 month Rapidshare premium account.
Hahaha.
Chea!
Big Doe Rehab
a wise purchase
last cd i bought was Devin the Dude…gotta support my independant artists making cds packed to the brim with bangers…before that, 9th Wonder (even tho i lost it and had to dl it)
true to my motherfucking word:
last 2 cee deez I bought:
Erykah Badu – “New AmErykah”
Pete Rock – “NY’s Finest”
Last CD I bought was American Gangster. Good CD… had to support, eventhough it wasn’t necessary.
I’d also like to say
FUCK ANYONE INVOLVED WITH HIPHOPSITE.COM
back when they were a brick and mortar store
I bought $80 worth of CD’s from them before they closed down to go digital.
THEY STIFFED ME. AND NEVER SENT ME MY ORDER. LET ALONE ACKNOWLEDGED THEIR FUCK UP. SO FUCK THOSE FAGGOTS IN LAS VEGAS. LEFT A BAD TASTE IN MY MOUTH.
Now tell me…what dumb-ass would go there to pay for downloads when they’re widely available for the free?
Stay downloading..american gangster was worth the price and alicia keys ..that sexy thoroughbred ….lol
I bought cunninglynguists-dirty acres a couple weeks ago, which actually made me feel pretty good.
Last year was all about shows and t-shirts for me. Wu tang and Ghostface made way more money from me showing up at their shows than from the 20 bucks than from me buyin there cds at target over the holidays.
I didn’t buy the clipse CD, but I showed up to see them…twice
Last CD I bought was…..
Devin the Dude- To Tha X-Treme
I copped that on Christmas Eve. I tried to go buy something yesterday, I thought I could get a bargain in the $5 section, but all I found was Rap Murr Phobia, a bootleg ass Goodie Mob “Greatest Hits”, and some other BS. Fuck it, I’m bootleggin for a few more years.
@ Gotty
I slang hella books on Amazon. Fast way to some bucks, just find new books and undercut everybody. Shit it’s all profit when you get the books for free.
The Cool was the last CD I bought and before that Return of the Mac – Prodigy
Sad.
I went to Rock The Bells in NYC, saw Little Brother in Baltimore AND Richmond, went to see the Stones Throw tour in DC, bought Graduation, Ear Drum, FInding Forever, GetBack, Below The Heavens, American Gangster…
yeah, I STAYS putting money in the hip-hop economy…
these RIAA crackers can’t say shit…
Who got that Roscoe Umali – “I Love My Djs” ?
I know somebody got to have that shit. Holla back an I’ll holla back.
TATADIZ WATCHUR FUCKEN MOUFS!!!!
It was a perfect storm that killed the record store. The RIAA wasn’t just suing bootleggers, they were suing customers. It was like the auto industry going out and suing people for letting other folks’ drive their cars. It might be the dumbest thing i seen/heard of in the last 100 years of business.
people just said eff ‘em.
If you’re a real music head, it’s worth it to buy a Dell and use it for downloading music and nothing else.
You figure if you’re burning your usual fix of ten store bought $20 CD albums that you’d normally buy each month (that was my usual budget), by the end of the year, you’ve probably paid for a good laptop.
Now add to the trash passing for an album after the first 2-3 radio singles…
Record stores are like white girls with flat booties—a dying breed.
but with all the free sites, how long before itunes starts losing money? “$.99 Now” will never beat “Free Later” unless you’re talking upper-tier artists.
One of the options should have been BLANK cd’s.. I won’t buy a cd unless its blank.. I can spend 2O.OO on 1OO cd’s that can hold around 300 songs a piece if burnt in MP3 format.. Compared to 2O.OO on ONE cd with only 2-3 songs that I like..
I’d be a fool !
I do love my Ipod & Zune as well – but I would rather have a CD.
last one I bougt was the cool. i’ll be getting thriller 2k8, erykah, & rock here shortly.
I’ll be buying cd’s til they don’t sell em anymore.
& 20 bucks will get me at least two from bmg.
the last CD i bought new (not used) was David Banner – Mississippi: The Album.
Im with K. when you can get a spindle of a 100 for $13-15 on sale. A decent car deck that plays mp3′s for anywhere from $50-100. It makes sense to burn more than buy.
but I’ve been bootlegging from the beginning. How many of you remember have two VCRs to record the rental tapes? yes kids, I’m talking about before DVDs.
Juelz/Weezy – Do My Thing
http://www.zshare.net/audio/8351424dc1d2dc/
last cd purchase:alicia keyes
correction: keys
jus cop the cheap single like MR THORO @ http://www.aspektz.com
banging singleis only 99 cents on itunes
‘member maxi-singles? c’mon… u ‘member! that used to be the only way to get B-sides and a capella splits if you weren’t a DJ.
last CD i bought? Kirk Franklin, i think… I remember having to buy new stuff once by tape deck started chewing up my new jack city soundtrack from back in the day… that was a mad expensive couple years… BMG Music Club—12 CDs for a penny! (read that fine print!)
Hello, My name is Belve and I am addicted to downloading music.
When Napster had really just hit the scene, I was so very against downloading. I would still scrape up the dough to cop a new CD and/or audiotape. (I was slow to upgrade the radio in the hoopty). Then it happened, I discovered audiogalaxy (Does anyone even remember AG) and from there my addiction grew and grew. When they shut AG and Napster, I was already onto Kazaa.
Now I find music where ever it is and when (no if to it anymore) the RIAA catch up with me.. I will download music from a jail cell. lol
Last CD purchased – Definitive Thelonius Monk and a repurchase of Syleena Johnson’s last album. like 2 or 3 weeks after Get back dropped..
@ Nonchalant Misfit
Sorry to hear you got hit like that… I was lucky I had a friend that lived in Vegas.. I gave her like 200 and told her call me from the store with a basket in hand. I knew that part of what destroyed HHS was the cost of shipping. I will miss getting my vinyl from them tho.

I will never buy music again! I will spend $20-30 to someone live. The $20 for 4 good songs era is over!
Last CD bought: Alicia Keys-As I Am
Last purchases…
Saul Williams – The Inevitable Rise & Liberation of Niggy Tardust
And
J*Davey – The Beauty In Distortion
Ive paid for quite a few wack cds… ODB – Nigga please, Rufus Black – Credentials, Rampage – Last Boyscout, Rakim 18th letter, Canibus- Can I bus… sadly the list goes on.
I buy cd’s every other week and I’ll keep doing it until they stop selling ‘em!!! Sorry man, can’t listen to low-resolution files on a PC I gotta have good sound in my system. I enjoy going out, chilling on the block, hollering at some females, grabbing some food with the squad and copping my music. For me buying music is an experience; I don’t get the same experience sitting on my ass and downloading. Downloading is cool because it exposes you to new shit, but if you don’t support your artists then don’t complain that the game is fucked up or the album sucked because what right do you have? Also this whole “I go to shows so I support” bullshit is a joke; what if your favourite artist never shows up in your town? How do you support then? Bottom line support the hiphop and quit making lame excuses for not buying it, if your ass is broke then say that then (but if you’re over 20 and can’t afford a cd then that says something about your grind, switch up and get your hustle on!!! LOL!!!) and try and cop AT LEAST something. Just my $0.02 little cents.
off topic for a moment…
just thought it was a lil’ sumn different to see from a presidential candidate…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYCEnVmNkpE
I get alot of my cd’s from Dustygroove.com. They have some hard to find stuff.
Ms. Keys was the last cd I brought. Before that it was Graduation. I don’t buy cd’s in the store much. I really can’t find anything. I think most stores would rather sell downloads than cd’s themselves.
ima drop my dub on some greenery
@ Nonchalant: Yeah man fuck Hiphopsite!!! How fuck are you going to sell “digital downloads”? That’s like paying for air!!! LOL!!! I used to check that site all the time but they fell waaaaaaay the fuck off; never liked their reviews but they always had a good news section. Anyway, M.O.P. is in concert here in Toronto on Friday as is 9th Wonder, but I think I’ll check out KRS One because he’s here on Saturday.
KRS gives one of the best live solo shows…
no glitter, pyrotechnics, extra bullsh*t…
just 100% hip-hop.. enjoy
@ One.Eye.Deer : That’s why I’m going!!! I might not go to another show in my life (who am I kidding? I’m going to ALL the fucking shows this year!!!) but I’m damn sure going to see the the BlastMaster. 2008 YOU SUCKAAAAAAAZ!!!!!!!!
last cd i bought was Janet, MJB amd Jay Z
Last CD I bought: The Cool
$20: Tickets
seeing anything live > anything you listen to on your iPod on the treadmill.
@FLEA – Yeah I wanna see KRS on the 9th too. Gotta see how this week goes.
Or was it the 8th?
Who knows. :)
Last CDs I bout were Lupe “The Cool” A. Keys “As I am” The Roots “DoYouWantMore!!?” Mobb Deep “The Infamous” and Gangstarr “Moment of Truth”
The last 3 classics were gifts to my big bro to prove he still got that swagger of the true hip hop head despite his “elder” status.
I ended up giving A. Keys to moms.
I kept the Cool for myself.
otherwise, i bought some stuff from Itunes…no more than $20 worth. Truly, I would rather spend $20 on 2 months of Rapidshare…aka…the Trifecta! pron movies and music!
RS FTW!
Rakim 18th letter=wack???
Disagree!
i’d rather buy some weed with the 20 but concert is the next best thing..
as for the whole downloading thing.. i download, a lot.. i always buy hard copies from my favourite artists.. or if there is a cd by a new artist i really like i’ll cop that.. for example, below the heavens..
but it seems like a waste of money, buying a cd if you don’t know if you’ll like it… i got like 200 cds in the past few years.. i used to spend all my money on that shit…
HAHAHA^^ seen that coming.
No disrespect to the god, but that shit was non cypher if you know the mathematics.
BTW… I’m REALLY feelin “Little Dragon”.
“Twice” is haunting!! The whole damn joint spanks!
If you don’t know… find out.
Self titled lp
