“I’m a graduate of Cooley High
The last day of school threw my hat in the air,
With a new pair of shoes with the gum sole
Posed for the class picture…
…Fresh haircut, clean shave with the razor
It’s a sickness but God is my witness
Blessed with this gift since the day before Christmas…”
All the jabbering about shoes yesterday & that track popped up on the iPod.
It ended up getting repeat plays.
Mikey’s second verse captures a select mindstate that reflects a time may have preceded him, but still rings true throughout generations.
While they’re currently touring in Australia, it’s only right that the Cool Kids would do a feature in Sneaker Freaker magazine. Say what you will but it’s gotta be a good feeling for these young dudes and their moms. These cats made it out of the Chi & are touring places like Australia and loving it, as evidenced by these two exchanges from the interview…
You don’t have beaches in Chicago?
We do, we have the lake but it’s dirty, it’s not that clean though. That beach had crystal clear water, you guys have parrots walking on the beach and stuff, I was like “what the….”, it was tight man
You’re hanging out too with, I hate to say fans, but the people that come to your shows. You hang out afterwards and chill out, you’re pretty approachable.
Yeah, we’re just regular dudes you know. I was living in the dorms in college last year. You’ll never see us get to that superstar kind of attitude. It sucks and that was kills a lot of peoples careers man, you get that whole vibe about yourself and you elevate yourself to all other people, that sucks man. Nobody digs that shit.
Respect due. Stay grounded fellas.
And pay attention because the little parrot on my shoulder says they have something in the works with Nike.
Also in Sneaker Freaker…
Treat’em Mean & Keep’em Clean – A cool guide to cleaning & maintaining your sneakers.
And…
I’ve been quietly waiting on these Wildedges, which now are supposed to be releasing.
Those ^ and/or if you see these in a 13…

I hate being first, too much pressure to say something relevant/witty. Or I could just say…
1st.
1st
First (I think)
damn skippy…
But how lame is just saying “1st”? Especially when you’re actually second. Or third.
The EP really doesn’t leave the rotation in the whip.
I can’t believe I missed their live show…
Who has a better shot at mainstream success….
The Cool Kids ot Kidz In The Hall?
Cool Kids, no doubt. Kidz in the Hall is aight, but Cool Kids are dope as fuck.
Kidz in the Hall hold on to the backpack label to hard. Cool Kids may be a bit lacking on the lyrical side of things (to me at least, don’t jump down my throat, they’re getting better all the time). I say it’s about even.
Also depends on what kind of “mainstream” success you’re talking about. Kweli mainstream? Or Telefolo Pain mainstream?
All i really know is a saw Cool Kids on a commercial on Nick @ like 930 pm….ANNNDDDD dude had on a wolf shirt.
I said to myself “Self, The Cool Kids are under no more…”. Major.
Agreed. Production wise The Cool Kids win hands down. Content wise, they aren’t really saying much. The Kidz In The Hall seem to have a bigger machine behind them & the Obama song got them some valuable free press. I fux with both of them but I really want The Cool Kids to win.
A entire album with dj premier,
for Shyne ! u think it’s impossible, why?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKqEGZB9avo
damn, primo please in 2009 !!! please homie !
all i know is that when the southside is the house, the world pays attention. word to few inches of snow on the street today.
kanye, common, cool kids, bump j, no id, naledge…oh my.
I like Cool Kids, that “Winter Fresh” EP stays on heavy-ro (as in rotation) especially that “Flossin’” track. I like Kidz In the Hall better though; the “School Was My Hustle” album is a classic in my books and The Cool Kids have yet to make an album. Either way I’m with Ghostdini on this one, Chi-Town is definitely in the house for 2008.
@ T-dot: Yeah I’m pissed I missed the Cool Kids concert too!!! The fucking dude who was promoting the event told me that it was pay at the door, then he tells me the night before the concert that it’s tickets only and that the event is sold out!!! I almost grabbed my blade to give him a buck 50!!! LOL!!! I hope they come back though. It’s all good though, M.O.P., 9th Wonder, and KRS One will all be here for Canadian Music Week so that should be cool.
What’s the deal with that Cool Kids EP?
Gold & A Pager > Black Mags
New Cool Kids EP is on the way soon, once some legal issues are cleared up. I know the old EP “Totally Flossed Out” is lurking online somewhere. Just Google it.
88 > any other cool kids’ song
I grabbing my KRS-One tickets this weekend.
Might have a couple flicks too.
88′ hits hard
I respest them both. School is my hustle wasa definetly banger. The Cool Kids have grown on me. Black Mags is my shit. Mikey gets better everytime I hear him. I don’t know if either crew is going to hit Kanye status. But the most def on the rise.
