“Ayo Joell, Calm Down!”

“Nah, I ain’t even tryna play with ‘em.”
Joell is a beast.
About three years ago, this man’s ferocious flow roared out of my car’s stereo system. I heard him pounce onto and rip up a series of freestyles with the voracity of several starving sabers. I lost focus and had to pull the car over so as to properly listen, grasp and cheer, pounding my fist in the air, and bobbing my head like I was in a street cipher in the Bronx circa 1993.
When it was all over, I looked up to the skies, teary-eyed, half-traumatized and asked God: “Who the fuck is Joell Ortiz?”
In the words of Gottyâ„¢: “Joell spit will make a aggin have a Brown Sugar, fall in love
with hip-hop moment.” Enter co-signature here.
This unofficial mixtape, more of a compilation expertly put together by WMD, is an addition to the already impressive, seemingly unstoppable Joell legacy. A compilation of some of his post-Brick work; featurings and freestyles mostly; it is marvelous music that Ortiz heads will keep playing in heavy rotation and at high volumes. None of his Dre/Aftermath work appears here, save for a freestyle. (According to Joell, those Dre tracks are yet to be released.) Until then, this will quell those Hip-Hop hunger pangs.
At least one track on it will take you back to your “Brown Sugar” moment. It’s sure to rope in some new listeners and revive a lot of people’s hope in H.E.R.
It had me walking around the office with mad swagger for the past month. Proud of Brooklyn. Proud of Joell. But more than anything, proud of Hip-Hop.

MAYNE! Just watched The Wire on On Demand!!!!!! DAYUM… I wanna prepare ya’ll for a good ep. And the one after….OOOOOOOOOOOOO …..the previews are hot!!!!!
Pretty sure it’s the same one that was previously posted, but not spoken on.
Definitely some good joints on this one. I gave it the headphone treatment a few weeks ago & it will give you a good “this is hip-hop” feeling in spots.
haha co-sign the brown sugar moment, had that the first time I heard his first single “hip-hop”. I remember I came across his name somehow and I hit up his myspace and that song jus started playin…its jus the way i could relate to his lyrics.
…damn, thats sad that now a brown sugar moment for me is hittin up a myspace page lol
Ineed a link to that Wire ep asap. Spoilers have already ruined it for Me so no reason to wait till Sunday.

I’m not reading anymore comments on Sundays. Niggaz be fuckin’ shit up…
joell is an animal i have to say he is a lyrical beast

Avoidance of “Wire” spoilers will create a demographic of socially reclusive young niggas, walking around ancy and shit, scared to be touched or talked to..lookin like Bubbles in Season 1…
Joell Ortiz, and Crooked ftw

Joell is too nice
125 Grams pt. 2 ftw
There are two ways to rap about hustling–the boastful, everyman approach (think Young Jeezy) or the reflective, intelligentsia approach (think Jay-Z). Like his unofficial mentor, Joel Ortiz offers a combination of both styles.

This Dude is next up. One of the most creative new MC’s coming from the South. Peep…

Gotty, sorry for the spill. mane……. and uproar….
Amp, I was juuuusst about to up that. Got it last night but haven’t listened. heard plenty of good about buddy so i’m anticipating hearing it.
B.O.B. is like a breath of fresh air. Dude’s style reminds me of Andre during the “Aquemini” years. Hopefully getting with Mick Boogie will get Him some attention outside of The A.
Ayo!! Does anybody have The Fam-Lee – Runs in the Fam Lee album??
@500k: A brown sugar moment is (at least for me) jus that feelin you get when you hear a specific track, lyric or beat or whatever and it makes you stop and jus think like damn…THIS is why I love hip-hop. If you seen the move Brown Sugar, they embody this perfectly.
Think the first time you heard illmatic…or, one that always does it for me is AZ – Rather Unique, right when the beat drops in after that “Rock the house”…
I was just bumping Joell new song Top of the chart and that line quoted came up and exzacly the same time I clicked on this
@ Dizastix: Ahhhhhhh I see; I think we have coined a new term here on TSS once again! LOL!!!
