I’m liking this from a pure, purist standpoint. That doesn’t happen too often these days. In order to find music you like, one has to make all these fuckin’ concessions. This is music I can take on its own terms. No chaser required.
In a way, that sparked my brain.
There’s plenty of artists out there who are creative without straying too far traditional conventions of hip-hop.
Listening to one (All-Star – “Alphabet Soup”) made me think of the original (All-Star – “A to Z”) ,which reminded me that I meant to post this other track (Joell Ortiz Ft. Domingo – “Exactly”) as well…because all three share a common bond – artists flipping the alphabet in various ways.
Is it a “new” concept? Nope. But in terms of skill & technique, I’d have to put Joell’s joint up there with Nas’ “Rewind”…and maybe even a notch above it.
Star’s? Well, I think I spoke on the original track many moons ago & it just fit into the whole play-on-letters concept.
That is all. C-a-r-r-y on.
