The Great Debaters…
GENERAL By Gotty™ on January 27, 2008 at 3:18 pmThe following are hip-hop arguments that will never cease…
Jay-z or Nas
“Renegade” – Eminem or Jay-z
BDP or Juice Crew
LL or Kool Moe Dee
Pac & Death Row or Biggie & Bad Boy
No Limit or Cash Money
Speakerboxxx or Love Below
Roxanne or The Real Roxanne
Canibus or L.L.
Feel free to add to the list, insert your answers to the above debates and/or share your experiences with the topics.
And for the record, I’m siding with “Ether” & Speakerboxxx.

Uno Bitches!
Always been Nas for me, not that I don’t love Jay-Z, but illmatic alone is enough to permanently keep my loyalty with Nas.
Jay vs Em is not an argument. We all know who won that, the only question is how far behind Jay’s verse was: slightly behind or WAY behind. Nas suggested the latter.
And the only person I’ve ever heard who said Kool Moe Dee beat LL was . . . Kool Moe Dee.
Someone needs to leak Jay Electronica’s Act II and WGI4Cv3.
love below has a permanent place with me but speakerboxxx is the shit. what ever happened to big boi releasing a new single on new years eve? anyone know anything?
Here’s a debate for ya asses (no homo!):
The Cool or Graduation???
I’m going with the Cool, sorry!
Graduation.
But is that even a “debate” since both just came out?
Renegade? Eminem > Jay-Z
Em rode that beat better, wordplay was more sicker. Of course, Em made that beat, so he had an advantage….
The Roxannes? Shante > The Real…but back in the day, The Real Roxanne would’ve gotten it everyday, twice on Sundays…
Cash Money > No Limit….sure, Master P laid the groundwork for Baby & Slim, but sonically Mannie Fresh’s beats & their whole aesthetic/vibe was “it” then…
Bad Boy > Death Row…I’m a West Coast (read: BEST COAST) cat to death, but a lot of the Death Row benchwarmers were subpar, & they set the precedent for the drama to supercede the music. Plus, I was a sucker for lyrically-inclined hip-hop with sick wordplay then, and that gangster shit wasn’t cutting it for me
Canibus / LL / Moe Dee…gee, I can’t really call it. LL was quite the showman…in an arena, on stage, I think that was his domain…Bis absolutely MURKED James Todd w/ 2nd Round Knockout….then LL returned fire with his shot, I forget what it was called, but I thought he had a few dope lines…Moe Dee was Bis lyrically, but he was already a fading legend whose “teeth needed Colgate”, if you let L tell it…
Juice Crew, in the end, spawned a lot of legends to one KRS. Again, I can’t call it. If it’s the beef between Marley / Shan & Kris? Knowledge Reigns Supreme, all day…
Nas is my favortie, but Jay tends to get more play by me. U have to be in a mood to digest what Nas puts out. But I love how he just says what he feels on the mic & is willing to deal with the consequences later.
this may be a bit off topic but i cant get over it, im listening to soundbombing II from a few posts ago, and part of the beat from b-boy document ‘99 sounds damn familiar. whats the other song that used that beat?
Add on….
Pharcyde or Heiro ?
Biggie or Jay ? (probably a no brainer)
Beastie Boys or EPMD ?
Mos Def or Talib? ( THATS A HARD ONE)
I’m just going to comment on the Nas Jay-Z one. For me it is Nas by far. I don’t even think Jay is second to him, Rakim is for me. Yeah I think Nas is better then the God. Jay gets too much love for not doin much, musically.
I think I got a good one.
Street Dreams or All Eyez On Me
i did’nt even know love below vs speakerboxx was an issue, cause love below was so on a next level to anything else before or since.
em in his prime burnt everyone in a 8 mile radius, jay included.
krs spanked a whole crew single handed, but played smart by leaving kane, g rap and masta ace out of the equation! juice crew was a superior team in terms of heads and beats though.
shante
canibus second round ko, is my favourite diss track of all time after ether.
no limit or cash money, pass!
but jayz can make classic shit and real banger, real dope music or bouncin’ music … jay is polyvalent…
Nas is more a mental emcee, he dont have any big pimpin’, guilty until proven innocent or the bounce
Em’ is the best probably because jay said that, and nas dont want a feat, he dont want that Em outshine him. so ..?
Em is just in the middle of Nas and Jay .. for me
but he is on the other side, an emcee in marge, an ovni … your style is generic, made authentic made!
ps: the three genius of h-h in this millenium.
—Flea—
Lupe is an emcee,
Kanye is producer, rapper
but he wants to be an emcee, he works hard…
And the next album will be the masterpiece for that i think, after this college’s trilogy! now he is ready !
but … two different album … so no comparison
Lupe wants made ‘Fiascoesque Classic Album’
and Ye wants ‘Stadium Status’ aka Universal Album
i hope that the next album cover will be inspirated by mosdef best of both side… or fifitycent curtis … and common’s Be ! For A new Kanye West !!
For A revolution Hiphop.
because just timbo, dr dre and him, can make that!
Heiro > Pharcyde > Hobo Junction (in the grand scheme of all things West Coast…do heads even remember the beef between Casual & Saafir which resulted in that funny lil battle on the Wake Up Show?)
Biggie > Jay…Jay has made himself out to be this immaculate, untouchable super MC…Biggie was a humorous cat with imperfections…gotta love a fat dude with swagger who isn’t arrogant.
EPMD. Period.
next one please…
The Mighty Mos Def or Talib? dag…that is a hard one…I say Kweli.
EM>Jay-Z on Renegades
Here’s some
Rakim vs Kool G Rap vs Kane
Prince vs Michael Jackson
Primo vs timberland vs Dr.Dre
jayz won at the rap game but nas ethered his ass on wax and then its death row over bad boy and cash money over no limit
and fuck the cool and the graduation
below the heavens is where its at
what about
hot dollars who the fuck is that vs flo rida low
the patriots vs new york or
Tss > everyone else?
Beastie Boys or EPMD ?
===========
Man you gotta go sit in the corner for that one lol. Not even debatable.
EPMD
Talib > Mos
Premier > Dre > Timbo
canibus second round ko, is my favourite diss track of all time after ether.
=========
Noncipher for myself. That would belong to Common’s “The Bitch In Yoo”
Rakim vs Kool G Rap vs Kane
==============
Kane for me personally, even though I know Rakim fathered alot of what Kane brought to mic. Kane took that & added some IMO.
I started to say “The Bridge” vs. “The Bridge Is Over” but that wasn’t even debatable.
HH Lyricist : Nas, Rakim, Common, Talib, Mos, Rae, GhostFaceK … Pun, KRs1
Rap Lyricist : Tupac, Biggie, Mef, Red, Too $
…
What is the lyricism, … who is a lyricist?
Tupac is a legend, for his charisma&personality
(for his history, his past, and his music influence)
Biggie is a legend only for his music! and talent of word !nah,?
Rakim Allah Tha God, is the transition between rapper and emcee… the first emcee !
and Nas hohw? Illmatic !!!
JayZ owwh? Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint
Talib –> if skillz sold truth be told, i probably be lyricly … Eardrum
Common Sense … LW4C … R … Be … FF?
MosDef, an ovni too.
Just Put Your Own Perception.
Gruems vs. his multiple split personalities vs. the insane asylum
i guess it’s only right to continue this debate on Jay vs. Nas, but like many have said it’s a no brainer… I will give Jay props for “being on top for so long”, although i don’t feel it’s because of his lyricism.. i mean i could name at least 10 mc’s that are better lyrically than Jay…
1. jigga – dykkin down nasir’s baby mama will always give jay-z the edge in my book…
2. renegade – royce da 5′9”
3. juice crew- can’t recall any bdp that moves me like the juice crew’s “the symphony”…
4. kool moe dee at the time… ll in hind sight…
5. death row… dre on the boards along with pac, snoop, dogg pound, nate dogg, lady of rage, etc… they were a forced to be reckoned with back in the day… as far as i am concerned, bad boy only had biggie, a few hit singles from other artists [i.e. craig mack, puff], and a slew of r&b acts…
6. probably cash money- never cared too much for either…
7. speakerboxxx – biggest trunk rattler on my ipod… andre’s album was good, but big boi had the better album… never cared for skits involving a woman who can’t find her panties [might make a good video though]..
8. can’t call it… too long ago and too i’m unfamiliar with the battle…
9. canibus – ll’s comeback’s were comical in comparison…
u left off:
kim vs. fox
arnold drummond vs. the gooch…
Em’ Won That By A Technicality.
If I Take Two Jump Shots and Then You Take One Shot. Who Has A Higher Chance Of Making The Shot?
Em’ wrote a verse, then let Royce do a verse. Then He Let’s Jay Hear The Track And Asks Jay to do a verse. The Jay Takes The Song and Changes It. Em Goes Back And Removes His Old Verse and Rewrites It For The Third Time (He Had Two Verses On The Original Version) So Of Course Em’ Is Going To Have A Better Verse!!!
vs. his battle with his medication
non hip hop
Prince vs. Rick James
Mo’ Money, Mo’ Problems or Less Money, Fewer Problems
a great argument would be who is the greatest Dj/Mc combo???… i’ve always been a eric b/rakim fan but i think i’ll have to go with Gangstarr for the fact they’ve put out so many albums..
Prod.U.Sir !!
Timbaland = Polyvalence, Futuristic and Polyvalent
Best Genius!! Shock Value II for his real advent [for the community] (maybe) because the world know him now
Dr.Dre = Anthem Man, probably … after Detox, we will see if he is encore the first in the world !
Primo = HH Spirit, Classicism, MPC Prodigy, Voice Scratch King, Intemporally Producer
West = Soul Genius, Go To Stadium Status, Icon
Just Blaze = Samples Prodigy, What More Can I Say To You ? lol
9th Wonder = Fruity L Prodigy, Lil Brother Spirit,
Voice Pitch new genius too
The Neptunes = The Hype is not The Genius
Swizzy = baahh, now a looser !
but DMX classics!
Renegade…
Royce > Jay-Z
>arnold drummond vs. the gooch
lol
Best Lyricist of all time? think of most dope cut.
Top three:
Big L
Big Pun
Em
how about the debate about hook men?
Nate Dogg, T-Pain, Akon?
I’d go with Nate on that one.
iTS nOT A mOVIE DOG

gotty where is that IGNORE button?
Everybody all seems to think Nas just bodies Jay in a comparison, and I’m a Esco fan to the def but like hommie said ^^^ somewhere You have to be in a certain mood to fux wit the God Son.
I can listen to one of the Jay cuts no matter what mood I’m in, you gotcha Fuck bitches joints to romance the ladies, hustling to business minded songs, introspective cuts to arrogant flashy. But Nas is a artist and I support and respect the god.
And of course Em outdid Jay, he’s one of the top lyricist ever. Jus like when Big L blew Jay away on the second verse of the infamous “7 minute freestyle”
i just say that Jay dont make a competition … he writes a verse and if it’s good for him it’s good for the other.. Forbes 1, 2, 3
after Kingdom come debacle, he is more wary
but timbo says he is a genius ..! so when timb says it’s a genius, it’s a genius !
ps: and the flow is also a important part for a track, and jay has the best flow …
don don tch don don don don don don
don don tch don don don don don

Hell yea Nate Dogg
Them other niggas cant even sing. I hope he gets well soon
@ raine4398
The Gooch > Arnold Drummond
an invisible bully.
yo, think about that.
Didn’t The Gooch whoop both Arnold AND Willis?
plus, The Gooch was mentioned by Biggie.
& The Gooch didn’t have to resort to selling his Game Cube & Gap track pants on eBay like Gary Coleman.
@ Big Steve: that beat is also used on “way of life” by DITC.
Also, I think the “argument” that Kanye is not hip-hop or is not an emcee is the most ignorant shit i’ve ever heard in my life…not dissin anyone but thats jus my opinion.
gooch > Arnold: he is selling Nitendo 64 games on Ebay!!!!
Rick James>Prince
em>Big Pun=Big L
dj/mc combo
Talib/Hi tech
Run DMC/Jam Master Jay
Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five
Eric B and Rakim
Kool G Rap and Polo
Black Moon/Evil Dee
EPMD/DJ scratch
Jazzy Jeff/Fresh Prince(This one was more a nod to Jazzy Jeff)
@ Ya Boy Po: Fuck The Cool? I don’t think you’re listening hard enough my dude. Blu is a superb emcee, but he can’t touch Lupe on the mic.
1. The Cool
2. Below The Heavens
3. Graduation
The Cool pretty much destroyed ALL releases for 2007, debate that shit with me!!!
Lil Wayne or T.I
I think thats one the youth of today are debating.
My picks
Jay Z
Eminem
BDP
LL
Pac & DR
Cash Money
Love Below
uhhhh
2nd round K.O best track easily … but after that *smh @ Canibus life.
Since we’re on the Nas vs. Jay shit:
Illmatic or Reasonable Doubt?
Illmatic hands down!!!
@ Boogie T

which is the best song ever created ??? one song, one artist and thus one producer !!! peace
no haters.
no greums.
no loster.
chad or pharrell?
Graduation = an album for the ages. This generation will remember it fondly as the sound of their summer/winter/ whatever season it is where they are in the world.
The Cool = Canibus – 2000BC.
*runs for cover.
Budden, of course, had intended to release a second album called “The Growth” in the wake of the self-titled record’s success. But it was scuttled by a deteriorating relationship with Def Jam, his label at the time, and a rumored feud with outgoing CEO Jay-Z. Nowadays Budden says that “the relationship went sour over the years, not something that just happened spontaneously or instantly. It was kind of a developing process.”
But he does acknowledge that Def Jam’s changing of the guard in 2004, after his debut’s release, was not good for his career. “The people that signed me to Def Jam and had so much faith in me and believed in me, those weren’t the people who were in charge anymore,” Budden explains. “If the people who are running Def Jam now were in charge in 2002, 2003, who could say if I ever would have been signed to a deal.”
Once “Padded Room” is out, meanwhile, Budden hopes that there won’t be as long a wait for his third album. “I’m in the studio every single day, vibing and coming up with ideas,” he notes. “There’s always music around to put out, so you’ll hear more from me sooner than later, I hope.”
“…And argue all day about who’s the best MC, Biggie, Jay-Z or Nas?
Anybody got the Royce version of “Renegade”? Never heard it before.
Who fell off the hardest…
Darkman X or Marshal Mathers?
@DIZASTIX
just an european perception.
[a greumsy mind] lol
no just a thing…
but Kanye is a very good rapper, but his classic is co-writed with Rhymefest so… no really emceestic nah!? he is not mentionned in the lyricists’ list
Peace.
chad: atleast HE knows he cant sing. Memo to Pharell!!!
LOL
best dis
Souljah boy dissing GZA vs Shyiem vs Raekwon
this has to be the only one Souljah boy would win; that shyiem dis records was a waste of time.
Who fell off the hardest…
Darkman X or Marshal Mathers?
- Em cause he had so much further to fall. Neither hold a candle to Prodigy’s deterioration tho
wow, gotty opened the floodgates for a bunch of people to state there opinions (which are facts in their minds) as if they actually are facts.
lol.
obama or clinton?
@ Nonchalant Misfit
the gooch whooped willis??? don’t remember that episode… i know he did a number on arnold’s lunchbox though… and i think he was selling weed to kimberly…
which biggie track do you speak of???
“1. jigga – dykkin down nasir’s baby mama will always give jay-z the edge in my book…”
This still has to be the stupidest shit for an arguement I have ever read. I don’t even want to get into it but come on, dude slept with another mans ex, NO WAY!!! Then to bring it to an arguement about music, the fuck.
I think people underestminate Nas when it comes to being versatile. He has done something for whatever mood you are in. My biggest gripe with Jay is that he hasn’t changed in something like 12 years, he made an effort on the Black Album to stray a little from being the hustler but it came back. He has been rapping about the same thing his whole career and it annoys the shit out of me. Another reason I put Nas above him, he is himself on wax, ironically, not the fable many make him out to be.
Jay-z or Nas
Smilin in my face, glad to break bread with the god
Wearin Jaz chains, no tecs, no cash, no cars
No jail bars Jigga, no pies, no case
Just Hawaiian shirts, hangin with little Chase
You a fan, a phony, a fake, a pussy, a Stan
I still whip your ass, you thirty-six in a karate class
You Tae-bo hoe, tryna’ work it out, you tryna’ get brolic?
Ask me if I’m tryna’ kick knowledge
Nah, I’m tryna’ kick the shit you need to learn though
That ether, that shit that make your soul burn slow
Is he Dame Diddy, Dame Daddy or Dame Dummy?
Oh, I get it, you Biggie and he’s Puffy
nuff said
“Renegade” – Eminem or Jay-z
em killed it im sorry

Craig Mack’s “Flava In Ya Ear Remix”
Biggie’s verse:
“Niggas is mad I get more butt than ash trays,
Fuck a fair one I get mines the fast way,
The ski mask way,
Uhh,
Ransom notes,
Far from handsome…but damn a nigga tote,
[What ya' tote]
more guns than roses,
Foes is,
shaking in their boots,
Invisible bullies like The Gooch,
Disappear…vamoose…you’re wack to me,
Take them rhymes back to the factory,
I see,
The gimmicks…the wack lyrics,
The shit is depressing…pathetic…please forget it,
You’re mad cause my style you’re admiring,
Don’t be mad…UPS is hiring,
You shoulda been a cop…fuck hip-hop,
With that freestyle you’re bound to get shot,
Not from Houston but I rap-a-lot,
Pack the gat a lot,
The flav’s bout to drop uhh”
Here’s One:
Cube or Ren?
Keke or Pat
Slim Thug or Cham
SCREW or Watts?……
3000 or Fat Sacs…..
50 or GAME
@ aron
the dykkin down nasir’s ex wasn’t my only reason behind picking jay-z… i was only referring to their battle- not them as overall artists or to their contribution to the game… i still think takeover > ether… and jay only got in 1 verse about nas on the song…
but in the context of a battle… dykking down your your rival’s girl gotta count for something…
Dmx or Busta Rhymes ?
“Blue Collar” or “Food & Liquor” ?
Funk Doc or Mef ?
Sigel Sigel or Freeway ?

Lil Wayne ?

@ Bringing 88 back:
I don’t think either the Neptunes or J Dilla can be considered overated. Both have produced some incredible tracks. I will say because of Dilla’s passing people have gone overboard with their admiration of his work. It seems like they are trying to make up for not appreciating him when he was alive.
Illmatic > Reasonable Doubt.
RD is still fiyah, but it doesn’t play through like illmatic does. Bottom line: If I could only have own one album it’d prolly be illmatic.
@Ampgeez: Between those two choices, Neptunes. I Don’t think Dilla is overrated at all…
@Gerums: Yeah, Jesus Walks was co-written, but does that hold him back from bein an emcee? He has released 3 full albums and numerous mixtapes full of bangers and his style is so unique.
“Pop quiz, how many topless, black foxes
Did I have under my belt, like boxers
Not to brag but, if it add up
One, two, nigga that’s mad nuts”
^ The way he switches his voice and acts like he’s countin on that last line is ill.

true, but why he isnot considerated like a real emcee… by the american perception,
he is not a lyricist but an emcee ! contradiction
that’s ?, for me emcee n’ lyricist are the same thing
i like kanye, 3 very good albums! rap mogul !
1and2classics… some classic tracks, bangerz
not a very guud flow but guud presence.

I second that one, Gotty.
I like em both, but IMO, they both get alot more hype then I think they deserve sometimes. Especially since Dilla passed…
tim or danja ?

Honorable mention: Boned Pink when she was still being marketed to Urban radio
LOL!!!!
Great post Gotty.
1) Hands down Nas for me. I love Jay tho.
2) Em killed it. He was unfukwitable in his prime.
3) The bridge is over, the bridge is over, hey hey!!
4) Uncle L Future of the Funk
5) Biggie=G.O.A.T.
6) Cash Money, if for no other reason than the dopeness of Mannie Fresh’s beats.
7) Speakerboxxx!!! Andre needs to stick to rappin’. Noz articulated my feelings a couple of years ago in this column:
http://www.xxlmag.com/online/?p=1212
8) Roxanne Shante. Have a Nice Day is a dope track.
9) Have to go with Canibus, even though he fell off mightily after the battle. LL was well past his prime by that time.
Actually go listen to DIlla and you’ll see dude was on another level. His timing, some sounds he used, his ability to chop, his overall ability to…put it this way, he could make superman move.
Cassidy vs. Freeway
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHxOEQt0jqk
Pointless for me even to get in the mix now. I’ll just say 89!!!
Well….91!!!!
Talib > Mos any day of the week.
Don’t worry. I’ll 3rd that.
J Dilla is the most overrated producer as far as people rating him. Not gonna go into detail to make him seem “weak” but yeah…it’s true….
^ Cosign that one. I think his…… well, I’ll keep that part of the comment to myself.
over rated
neptunes arent hungry anymore they lazy
dilla yea i said it
timbo feeling him self since furtado and jt
dre n cool
Speakerboxx beats love below easy.
Kweli > Mos Def as he has had more consistent output and focussed on lyricism more than mos def in recent times, and it shows.
Biggie or Pac? I’m a pussy I just can’t split it. Biggie was so smooth you just have to say he is better, but then Pac was so passionate you have to say he was the best. Whose style do I like more? personally probs biggie. more word plays and shit.
and i think u have to go with BDP. released more classics.
Tribe or De La? that is a tough one. as much as i luv de la, i’m gonna have to say ATCQ as man they had 3 classic albums which to this day u can throw on and chill. de la had a few classics too but all were not on the Quest level…
The Cool = Canibus – 2000BC.
*runs for cover.

C’mon Donatello :-/
But Graduation is better.
See the thing about Lupe, yeah we all love him but ya gotta admit, his food for thought is a little tough to chew on (i.e. “Gotta Eat”—–HEY! Now there’s a pun for ya). When you use your brain, that gives you the best music but if you gotta be on your shit to do so, that can be a little bit of an headache. Just a little….
no offense to dilla, but yeah. i cosign gotty

Illmatic>All Jay albums…BUT
Jigga has a better discography. Actually it really isn’t close.
As far as Kweli & Mos Def imma say it like this…
Mos Def is more talented than Kweli. I realized that from the 100+ community service hours I put in listening to “Black Star” where he wins all the songs with the exception of “Hater Players” but he’s soooo lazy, we only got 1 OFFICIAL album out of em’, so Talib can get the vote fuck it…
AND
The Love Below>Speakerboxxx
Ya’ll trippin’. Speakerboxxx got some trash on it for real. I think Bamboo produced the beat to “Church”….
wow, 100+ (real) comments.
word?
^ All but yours! Hahahaha.
Nah, just playin P.
Oh yeah, and my first one too.
:O
*cries in a corner*
I agree about Illmatic…matter fact, it might be the best hip-hop album of all time…but Hov’s discography murks Nas’s
Ya’ll trippin’. Speakerboxxx got some trash on it for real. I think Bamboo produced the beat to “Church”….
========================
Oh man, no sir.
Love was good for taking the steps to push the music. But SB was just good period.
I realized that from the 100+ community service hours I put in listening to “Black Star”

LOL
De La > Tribe
Relevance & consistency. De La maintained much longer.
^^^Consistent doing what?
Early 00’s yeah, they had their face out there but still, the 1st 3 Tribe albums are still good enough to this day to really dead the argument.
Oh yeah, KiToy produced the beat to “War”…..
kats have officially gone mad…. treach or vin????? red or meth?????… treach and red by a landslide…
Here is the real arguement..
Song for song track for track Best year of hiphop
‘89 v ‘91 ??
oh and Love Below kills Speakerboxx… I liked SB uo until i put LB in the disc player.. I KNOW where all 3 of my copies of LB are.. right now

anybody have the greatest of Donny Hathaway??
JDilla overrated??? What the fuck!!!??? Listen man don’t disrespect the homie (R.I.P.), the only reason y’all saying that is because of all these faggot-ass batty-bwoy dick-riders jumping on his shit now that he’s dead. Same thing with Tupac, once he died I can remember how many heads started jumping on his material like they were down for him from the jump (probably describes most of YOU cats in here!) Nas vs Jay-z? I copped the Blueprint and The Black Album on Friday so I can honestly say Nas KILLS Jay hands down! Don’t get me wrong, they were both freat albums but in the long run Nas is waaaaay more interesting to listen to, while Jay is cool to hear but after a while gets annoying. Overall, I think Jigga is an overrated emcee.
I meant GREAT albums.
man the cool is hot for real
but i cant vibe to all Lupe Shit all the time
i skip tracks the graduation too i gotta be in the mood
for but below the heavens i can kick back and finish off the swisher box to on some real Shit put em in a six disc get you a dutch and go for a drive and let them bitches play
heaven gonna be on top
speaking of smoking what’s yalls gar of choice?
swishers> dutches> papers>white owls > blunt wraps > backwoods
colt 45 > old e
booty talk > all other flicks
who was ti talkin bout when he said on five hot rappers outta atlanta and im one of em?
eh what’s happening with a big L or mac dre week or a got damn kast week ? kast week ! kast week! kast week !cmon!
if you’re talking about catalogs talib > mos, but as far as emceeing goes… mos def drops science and talib just rhymes big words together, usually at the expense of a tolerable flow. it’s no contest there. mos >>> talib.
and saying dilla dawg is overrated isn’t any kind of blasphemy. he’s easily top 3 for me, but he has been incredibly hyped posthumously to the point where everyone and they grandmas say he is the g.o.a.t.
and i always thought that it was a tie between jay and em on renegade. hov’s first verse was better than em’s, em’s second verse was better than hov’s.
Aight, since there are so many heads up in here, I got a request.
Does anyne have
Keep on Truckin’: The Motown Solo Albums, Vol. 1 by Eddie Kendricks
I need that in my life. I have searched and searched and can’t find it anywhere. Well, there is ONE blog, but I can’t remember the name of it. And you had to be a member of it to look at it. Anyway if anyone has it, it would be greatly apprecited. Thanks in advance.

XXL or The Source (Importance to Hip Hop Media/History)
—————————————————————
How I feel tho
Jay-z
“Renegade” – Eminem
Juice Crew
Kool Moe Dee
Pac & Death Row
No Limit
Love Below
The Real Roxanne
Canibus
Daddy knows best: The Source. (All-time).
I get Source semen on my hands everytime I touch a XXL.
XXL (currently…maybe…)
The following are hip-hop arguments that will never cease…
Nas: Ether? COME ON! Jay’s my dude but damn! Tae-Bo hoe?!
“Renegade” – Eminem: Again Jay’s my dude but Em had an advantage I mean it was his beat.
BDP: Juice Crew got more legends and shit but KRS is the Spokesman of hip hop
LL murked Kool Moe Dee come on! Err’body know that
Biggie & Bad Boy: These cats were too fly. Pac and Tha Row were out there making noise and them Bad Boy cats paid them no mind and kept getting paid
Cash Money: No limit laid the ground work, but CMB Make you drop it like it’s hot I mean! And they gave us the Best Rapper Alive (well according to Wayne and Baby)
Love Below: A day in the live of Andre Benjamin is one of the illest tracks that I have heard to this day. My man kilt it on that track!
Roxanne: She was just too fly
Canibus: He killed L on his own shit, then, L was so hurt that he had to redo his lyrics. Plus he murdered Mr. Smith on that 2nd Round…
I love Super Kwe, but Mos be killing it on the mic!
The Source kills XXL overall, but XXL (imo) briefly was killing the Source, before the Source killed theirselves. Then XXL (YN) got lazy and started going for sales.
Now it’s XXL by default.
Pusha or Malice?
battle of the new breed of lyricists one from each coast
Joell or Crooked (I know people on here love Crook but to me this is a close call)
Ghost or Rae?
Chronic or Chronic 2001?(Lol I know to some of you older dudes this is a no brainer but I was born in 1990 I grew up on Chronic 2001 when Chronic came out I was still rockin Teenage mutant Ninja turtle breifs)
DAMN! I’m late for the debate.
Uumm…
LOVE BELOW just overshadowed speakerboxxx to me.
It was the right time for an album like that in my life since
I had just gone through a break-up.
Nas & Jay are a tie to me….although Nas is more thought provoking to me. Jay is more accessible to a larger audience of listeners.
Pac did it for me before the Death Row days.
B.I.G will always be my favorite though.
I lost a lot of respect for Pac after smashing Chris’s wifey.
Roxanne Shante is soooo hood, yet soooo smart.
Canibus any day over Uncle L, it’s just a shame Can-I-Bus turned into a super weirdo.
Juice Crew had the best line-up, but Kris could take’em all out!!!!!!!! Even Kane!!!
No Limit was High School, Cash Money was College.
I have to go with……No Limit because they had a million negros on the roster. You had to at least like one out da camp and I know I enjoyed a good three.
Eminem murdered him on his on ish!! R.I.P ReneJay.
Jay shoulda wrote his lyrics down on that joint.
I just don’t care for L, I definitely respect him for his pioneering but, I have fonder memories of Moe Dee.
Debater Denzel>>>>>American Gangster Denzel
Prince>>>>Michael Jackson
Btw I caught a glimpse of myself in the movie on my bootleg version. I got NO camera time. LOL
I have been standing in for an actor in the new Cube movie, maybe this go round you’ll see ya BOY!
Damn, Prop Joe…. Omar Comin’!
Nate Dogg VS. AKON………………………….
BEZ, you go to Grambling?
@ Boogie Tonite: Negroe please, You Dilla is one of the illest so respect the architect dunn.
@ Ya Boy Po: Shit, up here in Torornto we puff the Backwoods, Century Sams, and those flavoured blunt wraps. I ain’t picky since I’m just a casual smoker, niggaz always come by to cop bootlegs off me so I always smoke free. Which brings another debate:
Sess or Hydro?
I don’t know about y’all but the ‘dro makes my throat itch!!! LOL!!!
@ Boogie: I meant you know.
138 comments…gotta be some kinda record
I have been standing in for an actor in the new Cube movie, maybe this go round you’ll see ya BOY!
==========
Wear an RMF! tee lol
M.Double – I’m still buggin off that shit. So unexpected.
Gangstarr vs. Any other hip hop group????
WOWZERS…..It’s a LOT goin’ ON in here!!!
What’s RMF?!?!
TC I don’t go to Grambling.
I’m a college drop out like Ye.
I’m gonna do the online thing for a lil like Weezy.
I’m a Texas boy, down the skreet from Marshall, TX.
I’d tell ya who I’m standing in for but, it’s just too…….unusual a person considering I’m younger and they are older.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a handsome young man that just happens to fit what “they’re looking for”. LOL
I’d have is disagree with the Dilla is over rated comments. I think Dilla’s later stuff may be a little advanced for the average listener…The same goes for Madlib…..Madlib is by far the best producer in the game right now. He’s doing things that Kayne the rest of them will be doing 2-3 years from now. Kayne gets my vote for most over rated producer right now. No Hate. I dig his music but there’s a lot better producers out there. Check out Flying Lotus..I’ve been bumpin a lot of his his stuff lately.
Gotty…Much Respect..Love what you got going here! Tell the Fat White Boy to change is pic. Showing off the boogers in his nose is not gangster!
Lastly…Big Shout Out to Ace for doing wait really matters…..Free Music!!!
theGREATunknown
For that real ill…check out http://www.myspace.com/redbellyradio
I think the record for comments is that one where if you were the 25th, 50th, 75th, 100th and so on poster you won some shit. But this is actually interesting, so we have a winner.
And NDIAMONDS I’ll take Kast over G Starr, barely.
Oh yeah, someone explain how Dilla is over rated.
Now N Later’s
apple>watermelon
….as with the jolly ranchers!!!
WHAT?????!!!!
I gotta go with Nate Dogg….but i think everyone saw that one coming…
^ word
TC come thru to the Full Moon on Texas St. sometimes.
My homey and I go there on Thursdays every now & then if one of the bands are playing.
Look for the fly negro beside the dude with dreads.
Dilla IS NOT OVERRATED!
He’s one of the reasons, besides TSS ,
that I listen to Jay Electronica now.
@big steve: D.I.T.C.’s “way of life” maybe?
Mos Def vs Kweli?
The M-O-S DEFinitely.
The Cool or Graduation? Please. Why does everyone ride Lupe so hard? Lupe writes a dumb ass song about a cheeseburger as a metaphor for the streets and everyone acts like he’s James Joyce. He also needs to get some real producers. Dude can flow, he just needs to be less condescending about it. As for Kanye, he takes chances and more often than not makes great music. No comparison. Also, anyone care to comment on Ice Cube and Common? Bitch in Yoo is so sick. Anyone care to up that one?
Nas. Keep in mind that “Ethered” became slang for owning someone, not “Takeovered”
“Renegade” is Eminems song by a longshot.
BDP… (Forgive me Kane…)
Kool Moe Dee (the whole list for what “LL” might mean was Ethering at its finest, even if “Mama Said Knock you Out” was monstrous, it was more of an “I’m still relevant record” than a diss song)
Pac & Death Row- Simply because their disses were more pointed, and Pac is beyond heated when ad-libbing during “Hit ‘em Up”
Cash Money… especially in retrospect.
I’m going with Love Below, conceptually amazing.
The Real Roxanne
Canibus stomped LL… twice.
Oh and Mos Def is 1 billion times more talented than Talib Kweli
One more thing: Mos Def definitely. Kweli started out so strong, but The Beautiful Struggle and Ear Drum didn’t do it for me. Neither did that sucker free mixtape he put out. Some of his lines just make me cringe: “rippin a series of events, more unfortunate than lemony snicket”. Ugh. Mos Def has been largely MIA lately, but he is putting his stamp all over. That D.A.N.C.E. remix was dope, and again, he takes chances. I think he’s got a great shot at still putting out a legendary album. BLACKSTAR REUNITE PLEASE!!
^ And like Mos Def is still doin’ it real big? Ya he used to be fire but he’s lost his passion for rapping-hip-hop in general, and is focused on acting.
2007 for example:
Talib went hard with Blacksmith movement, and what did we get from Mos, Drunk and hot girls?
Talib Kweli>Mos Def
Damn G…someone above mentioned that Hobo/Pharcyde/Ffellowship….I am so lame…the fact that
I ain’t remember that…gets cali card revoked.

aiight y’all, I’m late to this sh*t, but PLEASE explain why Dilla* is OVERrated?
* – granted, they need to let his incomplete work remain in the vaults (ala Tupac), but HOW in the WHOLEWIDEWORLD is he overrated ?
seriously, please explain….
i’ll have to cosign gotty on the dilla ting. he got a lot of people jumping on his bandwagon when he passed. i love alot of his beats when they’re actually finished but all that releasing half finished beat stuff has to stop
good lookin out DiZASTiX. im sure u had to dig in the crates for that one…btw, mc/dj duos: pete rock and cl smooth…im reminicing
Ether over Jay
far as greatest Dynastys I take Wu over Rocafella over DeathRow
And I will just end this off with: Great Post Gotty
renegade? that was never a debate imo. em killed it and i’m a huuuge jay-z fan.
i damn near snuffed one of my dudes about this Nas/Jay controversy. I was born and raised in Queens and spent the latter part of my teenagehood in Long Island where believe it or not is some hardcore hip hop heads. that beef will always be discussed and that wont be the last incident between fellas and their favorite emcee. I just want to reiterate that Nas is a musician, Jay is a businessman and they both do well in both fields one is just better than the other. Check Escos catalog of unreleased music compared to Jay. Check Jay’s bank account compared to Nas.. Nuff Said!
My current arguments are with the younger gen hip hop heads which was me only a few years ago (shit has it been 10 years already?) i wonder if it was as difficult with the O.G.’s i used to run with when they used to tell me that the Juice Crew all-stars were the best thing since sliced bread, and now here i am trying to convince teenagers in my hood that Wu-Tang Clan had Wu-Wear b4 Jay had Rocawear, that Wu was fucking wit Biggie before Em even got on a remix, or that BIG was one of the few emcess RZA ever made a beat for outside of the clan, and that Souljah Boy has no right to even say GZA has been famous for 5 mins. So definitely add Old School Hip Hop Heads (or non-ignorant hip hop heads as i like to call us) VS The New School Hip Hop Heads to the list..
1
Thats easy!
1. Nas
2. Em smashed that joint
3. BDP
4. LL (I always thought KMD was a little lame)
5. Pac!!!
6. Who cares but I’ll go with No Limit
7. Thats a good one, fuck it…both!
8. Again, both!
9. LL
Illmatic vs. Only Built For Cuban Links

Much Respect to the originator BUT Watts over Screw
oh yeah,
Nas.. like someone said, ‘Ethered’ became a slang term, so it’s obvious.
Em… his track. Jay got ambushed, BUT that was at the height of Em being on top of his sh*t.
BDP…. He let the big boys (Kane & G. Rap) stay sleeping though. Good move. Kris hit the crew w/ the grimy.
LL… Kool Moe’s day had already passed. Jack The Ripper and it was a wrap
Biggie… dudes kept one eye on Big cuz he was a trend setter. Single-handedly perfected the formula for an album on Life After Death that cats still adhere to.
Cash Money… BG was the x-factor
Love Below… Dre said “fcukally’all”… and won.
Shante
Can-I-Bus…. LL was already way on the decline getting his lips right

“… i had to hustle / back to the wall, ashy knuckles / pockets filled with a lot of lint / not a cent / gotta vent / lot of innocent lives lost on the project bench / what you hollerin’? / gotta pay rent, bring dollars in / by the bodega, iron under my coat / feelin’ braver, doo rag wrappin’ my waves up, pockets full of hope / do not step to me / i’m awkward, i box lefty / an orphan, my pops left me / and often my momma was home / could not stress to me, i wasn’t grown / specially on nights i brought something home to quiet the stomach rumblings / my demeanor, thirty years my senior / my childhood didn’t mean much / only rasin’ green up / raisin’ my fingers to critics, raisin’ my head to the sky / BIG, i did it! multi before i die! / no lie / just know i chose my own fate / i drove by the fork in the road and went straight…”
Everybody loves Eminem’s verse because they can’t relate to Jay’s. They hear Eminem talking about problems with his popularity, people protesting, people blaming him for misleading children, and they really buy into that. I love Eminem, I really do. That verse was straight fire, his wordplay was immaculate and delivery was astounding. However, most people don’t understand the maturity of Hova’s writings. They don’t grasp his vivid illustrations, because they aren’t made obvious to those with a poor vocabulary. In this verse, he blames his recklesness on not being “grown” as we all have done when making childish mistakes in our teens, but acknowledged that he was in a poor situation that forced fast adjustments to his behavior: “my demeanor, thirty years my senior”. That lyricism is what makes him the god MC, but people don’t see it. The don’t appreciate his use of the English language that has established him not only as one of the greatest rappers, but one of the greatest writers of our time. I’m not going to sit around and break down the whole verse, if what he says goes over your head, then it goes over your head. The general public will relate to Eminem here, but someone who’s been in a true back to the wall situation identifies with Jay-Z immediately and embarks on a trip down memory lane.
