My vote for the next video is “Say Hello.”
I have no idea how a clip for that would work, but still.
I saw your comments and basically Gotty hit it the point on all cylinders. Usually when cats hear the word “overrated”, it tends to be taken as a negative term and that’s not always the case. But like the songs you pointed out—-they’re good, they’re great, but they all can easily be placed in that little box because they’re critical acclaimed amongst the people who really crave that underground sound, but the appeal is scarce elsewhere. Every producer has their distinct sound, but he didn’t really have that sonic boom to branch out like the Kanye’s,Timbo’s, Dre’s and Primo’s. Not a knock on him but it’s real talk. So when I see him getting placed in cat’s top 3 (even the few that were doing it before he died), I dont’ see it. No way. Kinda like the Blu & Exile album. I mean we all know it’s dope, but c’mon, Lupe is categorized as “real” Hip-Hop but he can get his songs on the radio, he can garner some mass appeal. Opinions are opinions but when you got a crowd on your side, it says a little something about you. You just gotta know what context to take it in.. (i.e. Nelly).
What’s with this comments closed shit, call me too late but im in a rush and wanna know whatsup with that?

who still has food and liquor in the rotation or late registration ?
I dig both of those albums over Ye’ & Lupe’s latest efforts. Not in regular rotation, but I still bump em every now & then.
I find it hard to be really critical of Dilla since the man passed away, but the fact remains that the acclaim for His work went up considerably after His death. I think Dude has some classic material out there, but He never really broke out of the underground/neo soul category. Not that that’s neccessarily a negative, but it is what it is. Also, & this is just My opinion, but the great producers usually break new artists. Who did Dilla come out with? Frank & Dank?
Party Life – rMx
man the only dilla i know really is the shining but Shit go hard but i got that Shit from my mentor after his death before the i ain’t know who he was bet if you go back to posts and comments and Shit before his death not much mention cuz i don’t remember hearing much and i be on these internets
Dilla is an underground classic producer
maybe his talent is universal and enormous
but only for the real hiphop heads, best popular effort is maybe, The Light ! Never Commercial, Ever Mass People, Not Mainstream, and that’s not bad. but if people like nas, jay or big taken dilla, not only primo, so? only busta rhymes works on each albums but his talent stresses common’s classic material, and emergence of the detroit stuff and instrumental power. his own style, unik work… a model ! a pionner. an hh sounds icon. rip.
and great debaters comments > all others this week
aggins (who came up with that by the way) still discussing that Shit
^ I think that’s Gotty’s word. Very PC, i might add.
thanks for answering. I was just wondering. Like you said, I saw ‘overrated’ and was like, “Damn y’all, that’s a bit harsh. Dude was nice”, but we’re on the same page. Dilla did not invent gravy, and he didn’t put the Swoosh on a Nike shoe. I’ve always thought he was ‘underrated’ in life, and was ‘overrated’ (just) a bit in death.
Amp geez you twenty nine? you almost thirty bra! you ain’t even a statistic no more damn i feel young
^ damn i feel young
you brought up an interesting point in talking about Lupe and Kanye (shelf life vs. sales), and it’s kinda where I stand in relation to Dilla. For some reason or another, I can put on any of those tracks I’d listed of Dilla’s and completely zone out at any time, years after the fact, easier than some more acclaimed producers….
aiight Boogie, I’m done. lol
& Amp… good looks. missed the response.
