C-Murder

With the million and one ways to get recognized in the Hip-Hop game, nepotism is one of the least common methods. But for Corey Miller a.k.a. C-Murder, being Master P’s younger brother had a tremendous impact on his career. Alongside his brothers on 1997′s unheralded Tru 2 Da Game, C-Murder got his first taste of the limelight in minimal fashion. It was an unlikely beginning for a rapper who would go on to have a moderately successful solo career.

Still, with the overnight phenomenon No Limit Records had become, everything they touched seemed to turn gold (or platinum). On his million-selling debut Life Or Death, C-Murder used his experience growing up in the Calliope Projects to deliver simple yet effective reality raps that carried on over to the Gold-certified follow-up Bossalinie. Obviously influenced by the style and persona of 2Pac, the raw and uncut lyrics C-Murder possessed kept alive the urban legends that he indeed was a true killer and marred his image when he was accused and convicted of 2nd-degree murder of a sixteen year old kid. Subsequent albums were released under the name ‘C-Miller’ to prevent any leverage for the prosecution. Eventually the case was overturned in 2006 and C-Murder appeared on Ludacris’ “Do Your Time” off the Grammy-Award winning Release Therapy alongside ex-felons Beanie Sigel and the late Pimp C.

Possibly best known for his pre-crunk contribution on Snoop Dogg’s “Down 4 My Niggas,” C-Murder never claimed or aimed to be the best in his field. But his sincere approach shown in the bulk of his music has earned him a loyal fanbase over the years and most likely for years to come.
