Out of curiosity, who does a Black woman, or any minority woman period, vote for if she’s favoring a Democratic candidate?
When making decisions like these, is a woman bound first by race, gender or neither?
Recently, I had this convo with a female peer and after exchanging ideas with one other person, I was curious as to how others felt on this one.

OPTIMISM.
As long as the PCs are there, we’ll be ok. (I can’t believe I said that.) in terms of economic standing.
Once the trillion dollar spending man is out, they should be ok.
@ b.payton….yea it does

Soulja Boy Claims He’s The Hottest MC In the Game — Better Than Jay-Z, Kanye …
Folks keep wonderin’ who can save America and the economy. Truth of the matter is it’s too early to discuss that. What we need to figure out is WHO CAN GET ELECTED!
We do live in interesting times where we have a Black man and a White woman that has a real chance at the presidency. But who will America be willing to vote for is going to be the party’s decision.
What we’re seeing now is the dog and pony show. It still doesn’t speak to the fact that America may not be ready for a white woman or especially a black man to lead the country.
I believe there needs to be a white man on the ticket for either of them to win. If Clinton or Obama dont do that then they alienatte they “almighty” white man. And then who looks after his intrests?
Thats why Edwards keeps hanging around. He’s the equalizer. What other candidate has stuck around with 4% of the votes?
Remember its still a white man’s country!

your boy always got love for TSS if they wanna run a lil feature
HOLLA
Gotty
By Souljas and MTVs definition he is the “hottest” rapper. As long as I have been an hip hop head, the best rappers were never the “hottest” artist in music. Rap was never on front street like it is now. Now that we are more commercialized than ever, A one-hit-wonder rap artist will be the “hottest” thing in music.
I mean think about it, is any of your top 3 fav artist in the top 5 of what pop fans consider to be “hot” music?
It would prolly be Soulja, Wayne, and Flo-rida
why havent either candidates mentioned gas prices and what the fuck they gonna do about it. not one word mentioned, fucking bullshit, they are literally raping our fucking mouths for gas prices.
upload that joint to Gigasize, Filefront or somewhere…and send me a laink!
I am not the least bit mad @ Souljah & agree w/his statement for exactly what you just said. And if I was 16-17 and making the moves he’s making, you couldn’t tell me shit either.
what up folks… can someone post AZ’s ‘the format”
Edwards is sticking around because
1.) He doesnt have anything else to do
2.) He’s hoping he can get enough delegates that he’ll make a difference and can leverage a VP nod or Cabinet position out of it.
“While Soulja Boy fully believes in himself, critics say his “ringtone” raps are a part of the problem plaguing hip-hop’s lyrical creativity. However, some pretty big heavyweights from 50 Cent to Nas have co-signed on the young rapper. Soulja Boy also said Busta Rhymes has reached out to work with him. But SB said to give him three or four more years to get his focus on being more lyrical in his tracks.
In the meantime, he sees himself as a pioneer of sorts, opening the door for do-it-yourself acts and artists set on making big dance tracks.”
Im glad he fully believes in himself, cause im pretty sure in 3 or 4 years he’ll be a footnote.
It was ingenious of him to come up with the idea of making big dance tracks though. If only I’d thought of that.
seen for that big Fonz
first off, SOULJA BOY IS NOT AN EMCEE, HE IS A RAPPER.
BIG DIFFERENCE.
2nd: instead of putting white out on your sunglasses, how about using it to correct some of that english.
ps. wow, im pretty angery. lol
If they had a brain they’d support Ron Paul.
But since they’re too ignorant to choose a political candidate based solely on gender and/or race well… that’s too bad.
And if I was 16-17 and making the moves he’s making, you couldn’t tell me shit either.
=====================================
true indeed. can’t knock the hustle
“And I’m only 18 making more than your pops”
Souljah Boy in ’08 / LL in like, ’88
what LL was doing then was perceived as gimmicky too at the time…
ain’t nothing really changed but the quality of the lyrics
Italicized words are what’s happenin’ these days… lol
That Soulja Boy stuff…. nonsense. He’s just reaching for more records sales
*Flips through “How to Sell Records to Dummies” Author 50 Cent*
As far as the Democratic candidates are concerned… either way, we’d be upgrading from the current presidential representation that our country has. I hope that Obama wins though.
Too bad the female comments on the site are out-weighed by the male comments on the regular.
@14 – Patrick M. – Thats my point exactly ’bout Edwards. He’s gonna be a V.P. !
@ Douglas – I agree ……there aren’t enough female comments. But most ladies don’t feel being online is productive anyway. SO SAD! They miss sooo much.
I do think that both Senators Clinton and Obama still have some work to do as far as economic plan, exit strategy out of the war; but as someone else mentioned earlier they are both better options than George “White Lines” Bush.
As far as Souljah boy, it is a damn shame that people nowadays has to knock the next man to big themselves up. I never heard Smokey Robinson say the temptations aint shit!! LOL
EDDIE MURPHY IS A PROPHET!

I think as far as women goes it depends on there value system that they have adopted.
I know brown women who have abandoned the race issue altogether to focus on the feminist aspect of self-empowerment.
I think women identify with each other more with gender and social classification than race.
So economics would be next in the “priorities” list of things.
While I wish Turk wasn’t as on point (no hate just hurtful truth) he most certainly is on point.
The question I would ask both of the Dem. frontrunners is simply. Who are you planning as a running mate?
If Hillary is serious about Obama not having the exp needed, why not offer it to him openly? Ask him to be on the ticket and pull all the minority votes together. She won’t do it simply because she knows he doesn’t agree with anything she really is backing. Hillary is old school in her political views and manners, and I see her following the status quo. And I really think if she takes the Dem ticket , Edwards will disappear like a ghost unless she promises him a key spot but NO WAY he takes a VP spot under her.
Obama on the other is promising change but to what end? Who would be his VP. Please remember Edwards is not the most trustworthy of Dems either and I feel he was the weak link with Kerry in ’04. This I think is where Obama has his greatest weakspot. His choices are limited simply because no one really matches his views closely enough and no one he could choose has a broad enough base to pull the “ruling class” into the flock.
The problem I see with the Dems is simply that they fight each other like crabs in a barrel. Watch as the Republicans rally around one person. I can see Romney on either side of a ticket with any Rep except Guliani (if he gets ANYWHERE near the white house as either Prez or VP, I am moving to Belize and you can quote me on that) and while this seems like the least likely scenario the Rep can always say they are all about working together.
Please vote if you can bot more than just voting, investigate all your choices. The economy will not collapse circa 1929 so stop worrying about it. And if your main worry is about gas prices.. forget it… research how much the equivalent price is in London or Paris or Germany. You’ll see that $3 and change ain’t the worst it could be. I tell folks plan for gas when making your choices like gas will be $5 a gallon.
Am I the only one who actually addressed the question?
Turk has a good point: it’s about who can get elected…and politics has never been more of a popularity contest than it is now. People wan’t to move up their states primaries or make sure that they are first to make it seem like their vote or opinion matters, and influences the rest of the nation [read:FUCK IOWA!].
The fact of the matter is that if you the only choices are a butch woman in a pants suit or a black teenager…it could be difficult to get white america behind either of those choices and sadly McCain will MURK either one of those candidates because he has appeal to independents and he represents the “status quo”.
So Gotty you can tell yo homegirl that since politically Obama and Clinton are the same person, its all about who she wants to piss off, Oprah or Billy Clint?!?
But most ladies don’t feel being online is productive anyway. SO SAD! They miss sooo much

This isn’t very acurate. The ladies may be scarce here, but check sites that actually attract the females. Have you seen YBF.com? Like 100 comments on each post, 98 of em women. Females are on the net like men, but their interests are different.
Gotty,
The Wire – S05E05
http://files.filefront.com/The+Wire+s5e05avi/;9486
**Disclaimer**
I previewed this episode to make sure it was good quality, but it doesn’t have the “previously on the wire” segment at the beginning and I haven’t watched all of episode 4 yet, so I can’t guarantee this is in sequence, but its definitely 58 new minutes of The Wire.
To answer the question, married women traditionally vote with their husbands. Not saying the husband decides, but I think usually political views are similar in most marriages. But I understand this election and group of candidates is very unique from previous years so I could definitely see a male voting for Obama and his wife voting for Hillary, but I think usually couples they usually vote together. As for single women, I have NO clue how they would think.
I have NO clue how they would think.
==========
A rule in life I guess.
Very valid point though about households typically voting in unison and this year possibly breaking that mold.
I suppose my point of reference comes from my wife who see’s me on TSS ALL THE TIME. Which means that she doesnt get the ‘puter much anyway!!! LOL But Im not assuming that females dont surf and I agree their interests are different.
I dont believe in this day and age that people are looking to the VP to be a major force anyway. When was the last time a VP did anything significant? Don’t pull out Al Gore …he didn’t start his groove until he lost to G. DUMBYA.
Edwards pulls that white male vote. He may not be very strong in his approach or views to be president…but this isnt about views…it’s more about $$$$ , what you can do for people, and votes for the party !!!!
I mean Obama is pulling people in on Hope and Change. You wont really hear about views until someone grabs the nomination. And even then don’t expect too much!
How many of you remember Daddy Bush and “NO NEW TAXES!!!”?
@ heff
you think you could get at me with the first epi. of this season of the wire. apparently the higher education system feels it unnecessary for its students to stay informed about the happenings of the city of baltimore
tbooth87@hotmail.com
unfortunately, more times than not people base their votes on everything but what really matters.. color, gender etc should play no part, but…………………we live in america and it wouldn’t be right if we thought any other way… the fact of the matter is all we can do is pray that things change and understand that one person can not and will not make a difference… until we’re all on the same page things will continue to go south as they have been regardless of who’s in office… but to totally answer the question i feel that many black women will vote for Obama based on color before anything else………..
unfortunately, more times than not people base their votes on everything but what really matters..
===========
True.
It’s the lesser of the evils I guess b/c as I consider the Dems, I see…
Hillary – questionable, flip-flops on some of the issues.
Obama – Not much in the realm of having proved himself or exp. under his belt.
R Kelly could have kept his verses
az the format, amazin’
best az’s album!
sounds & songs are perfect
real real dope!
@woodywood – can’t find my format but you can get AZ’s memphis sessions here:
http://iknowtheledge.com/its-old-but-still-so-good/
As far as the question Gotty, posts – my fiance is a woman of color and leaning towards Obama. She doesn’t buy into Clinton’s new “womanly” campaign efforts and thinks to have a man of color with a message of hope is more impacting to the nation than a privileged woman who is continuing the dynasties of the last decade.
franchise… good look on the memphis sessions…
Gotty, to answer your question as a relatively educated minority female myself:
After everything is all said and done, minority status comes before gender. A minority male for me, would possibly have a better outlook on the struggle I’ve gone through in life as a minority, which shapes me a little bit more than being a woman. Being a minority shapes my worldview a lot more so than being a woman. A Democrat is going to be more inclined to push for “woman’s rights” whether or not said Democrat is male or female since those themes seem to be central to what it means to be a Democrat. At this moment, despite his lack of actual “experience” (Although I wonder, is Hillary’s experience to be considered when she was First Lady? Seems like it) I’m inclined to vote for Obama.
And there might not be many females on sites like these, but we’re here whether you know it or not. *winks*
I spend a lot of time here and at another 99.99999% male blog. (Yeah, I’m that .0000001 %, I don’t think ANY girls even read it.)
diora…. you go girl…. (winks back)… and just so you know your input is just as important if not more than us “fellas”
Peace.
I will not vote for Hilary JUST because she is a woman, or a Clinton.
I will not vote for Obama JUST because he has African roots.
Does Obama “not understanding” the the struggle of black Americans affect me? a bit … but then I think what increases understanding of that? Going through it?
welp…
I didn’t even go through it. All I know is I’m a black woman in this country who is judged daily because of my skin color.
…and I’m sure he endures this daily, too.
so it sounds to me like he just might understand a lil something something.
Not to mention just seeing someone of African descent running for the Presidency is amazing in itself; whether he wins or not. Think of all the little babies who see him and have their whole shit flipped upside and now think ‘what if?’

Who says a woman is bound by either?
I know some Black women who, at one time, were seriously considering Edwards.
Fact of the matter, as a young black male, I’m offended when the media portrays Black Americans as short sighted and not educated enough to make an informed decision.
All I hear is whether the black community is going to go for Obama because he’s black or Hillary because of her HUSBAND’S achievements.
That not only mocks our ability to reason, but our responsibility to consider the issues.
Diora – I’m pretty sure there are a few other female lurkers. You are not alone!
Moniker – I’m reading homie. I don’t feel bound or compelled to vote for anyone personally.
I think it’s sad this question is even being asked, not by you either, I see it on the news all the time. The more and more this race continues the more of a joke it becomes. All my friends at like “fuck it” anyway cus of what happened last election. I told em they are going back to the old way of voting with paper but they don’t care, and I don’t blame them. Have we really came to a point where we will be choosing or next President, our President, on physical features. It really seems that way and it’s damn sad. On the real I think Justice, that big black dude from American Gladiators, should throw his name on the ballot, why not? Maybe even Big Black from Rob and Big. How about Monica Lewinsky, that would be some crazy shit. People would probably go with it too, look at Arnold. We really are some clowns.
I’m a republican.
BUT I wouldn’t vote clinton PERIOD. She stayed with her CHEATING ASS husband.. Fuck that shit. Nope & she gets too damn emotional.. Can’t have someone running our country crying all the goddamn time.
IMO – a woman should NEVER be president. It’s a man’s job.
Obama – take out that “B” and put in an “S” – enough said.
I honestly have no canidate that I would go down right now & vote for.. All of them aren’t saying that much to me.
