Life’s Curveball…
GENERAL By Gotty™ on December 4, 2007 at 4:21 pmLet me tell you how this week was supposed to go.
It was supposed to be silky smooth. See, usually we’re only working a day ahead, but not this week. We had several interviews prepped & ready. We had the Ghostface material cocked & loaded, ready to rock. We even had a giveaway coming up with a clothing company for a UGK-inspired & endorsed t-shirt (postponed for now).
Boom, silky smooth. The week was laid the fuck out.
Then this morning’s news revealed that Spice 1 had been shot.

My thought process was “Ok, he lived. Cool, we can make a mention but stay with the program.”
Then word started trickling in that Pimp C had passed.

Shit.
Things happen & plans change unexpectedly. And all things have a beginning.
When I started thinking of ways to speak on both of these artists, one of the inescapable links that comes to mind is the Menace II Society soundtrack, where both had profound songs that defined the early 90’ss, a time marked by the full blown exposure to crack (“Pocketful Of Stones” by UGK), violence (“Trigger Gots No Heart” by Spice 1), society’s ills…and rap as a medium to open people’s eyes to the shit.
Fast forward to today and where we stand. I can easily say that I’m praying that Spice recouperates & lives to be an older, healthier wiser man.
For Pimp, I won’t waste time on condolences…because Pimp lived the life he chose. My condolences do go out to his family. But part of me wouldn’t feel right feeling “down” because of his death. With Bun B, they blazed trails in rap before Pimp ended up getting locked up. Pimp came home, & like Pimpin Ken said, he came home to money & all of life’s other lavish trappings. Like the old timers would say, “you can’t stop a stepper” and as a trill ass nigga, that’s what Pimp was – a goddamn stepper & a marcher to the beat of his own drum
And dear Lord, the brother came hell & raised an insane amount of hell, calling out any & all rappers. Sometimes the claims were outlandish, perhaps provoked by the Devil’s dandruff (see: the infamous Atlanta radio interview). Other times they were on point & a good dose of reality that some of these egotistical rap hacks needed (see: criticism of hip-hop’s glamorization of jail).
I’m actually envious of sorts & I’m not even frowning upon the alleged drug use. If I ain’t have to worry about such trifles as drug testing at the job, constant nasal issues, incessantly tapping my feet, and, of course, the financial circumstances, hell I’d prolly be treating myself with the Bolivian marching powder, grindin’ my teeth as I type this.
So, fuck’em, Pimp.
You did it your way. You made your share of mistakes & had your share of triumphs.
And you lived your life to the fullest.
Spice 1, stay up & get well soon.
Another coincidence is that we happened to have a set of Shots, all related by the letter “C”…so I think we’ll run with those as well.

R.I.P. PIMP C!
r.i.p, yet again
Gotty your obits showcase your writing as well as anything. I’m not even a big UGK fan but powerful shit. You can write mine too.
G$, if you were strung out on the Sniffles, I doubt you’d be running this website the way you do. But you would, however, probably be posting the same link twice like you did above. A lot. :)
Here’s that radio interview – http://www.zshare.net/audio/2833955bb6adc1/.
I C Bears.
Beyond shocking… i was just coming online to see the news on what the sox was doing on the Santana front, and then i saw the cabrera/dontrelle deal, and boom on my feeds
Rapper Pimp C found dead in hotel
Guess what i was wearing today…
‘Free Pimp C’
First my favorite football players, and now one of my all-timw favortie rappers, and easily my favorite from the south… Life is fickle
It is officially time to put “I Miss My Homies” back on the iPod.
Ronnie – I hate you…because you catch every fuckin misstep lol. But that’s why I love you too my dude.
And I ain’t seen coke in years & I’m fine w/o seeing that whore. But we did have some good times lol.
fixed.
That sucks; whenever Pimp is brought up, I have to remember that “Pimpalation” review I had back in February…
My comment from earlier:
“Clipse and UGK are probably the only 2 groups right now that had me hyped everytime they put something out. I check for everything they drop, I scour the net for every new joint and feature…I download AND purchase their releases….I don’t check for that many acts like that nowadays…this is fucked up…Dude will be missed.”
It’s not many times I get sad when a musician passes, today is def. an exception.
Trill in Peace to tha GOD Pimp C.
Today is a sad day for Hip-Hop. Being from NYC, I wasn’t raised on UGK, but the first time I heard “One Day” & “Diamonds & Wood” in college, I became a huge fan of the duo, especially of Pimp C. When all my friends were wondering who those two dudes from Texas were, spitting alongside Hov on “Big Pimpin”, I could quietly smile to my self for being ahead of the curve. This is a huge loss, not just for southern rap, but for Hip-Hop as a whole. Dude was never afraid to say what He felt, no matter how off the wall it may have been to others. But more importantly, Dude was a genius producer who helped Texas establish a signature sound. The Pimp is finally free…
All good, famo.
I plead the fif on recreational drug use. I had a screening recently and passed with flying colors. If this were 1997 and not 2007, I probably piss tie-dye.
Haha I could do stories for days on that ol’bullshit.
Even though it’s Pimp that’s dead, Bun’s verse on “End Of The Road” is the one that keeps going thru my head. You gotta think, that’s a lot of frustration & love right there. He kept Pimp’s name alive all that time, waiting on him to come home. He finally makes it home & now you go from “Free Pimp C” to “R.I.P. Pimp C”.
Life sure can deal some fucked up hands.
^ LMFAO @ Ronnie
Damn,… Pimp C died? WTF? I was just watching a UGK video this morning before work. DAMN!

good write up, gotty. pimp will live on through his music, interviews, and them call-ins to the radio station. i hate to keep harping on them, but them interviews make me laugh so hard that it’s a shame. just the way that pimp goes in and out of the topic at hand is a thing of mastery.
RIP Pimp C
first song i heard with pimp c. deff fits the mood
http://youtube.com/watch?v=zfBxF6y77zU
RIP the Pimp
Made me want to post this
@ Will…
Yeah, that song is a classic. Even Silkk didn’t fuck it up, and he can fuck up ANYTHING.
But the least they could have done was at least make the edited parts sound like they fit into the video, Damn.
“Akickdoe” was tight, too. And “Murder,” and “Fuck My Car,” and “Break ‘em Off,” and…
“Belts To Match” = suave aggin anthem.
A lil chopped & screwed Pimp C for yall…”hustler” was my joint on that album, the pimp will be missed!!!

man i was str8 shocked…nobody in the house but me and i looked at the words on the screen of my laptop and said out loud…”u gotta be kiddin’…”
man…i’m from texas….this shit is unbelievable right now…
one day ur here baby, and then ur gone…
Today was the first time that I “ACTUALLY” felt the hurt, pain for someone I didn’t even know and the sound of my wifey’s voice when I told her…..I get a text message from a close friend…”PIMP DEAD”….Pimp? Pimp who? I responded….The next text was just a “C”……I left my desk, took a quick break, went to the car, sho nuff RAW was already talkin bout it…Rap-a-lot was already at the station….See, UGK was the norm here in South Texas…During my early school days Super Tight was always in the tape deck….Some hated on “C” cuz they couldn’t face it that it was real, too real for some..It was the truth he spoke about, wasn’t no glorifying anything , the man spoke the truth, he defined “trill”…Whatever the outcome of his death is the bottom line is that he’s not with us anymore,we can;t knock his lifestyle at all, it was who he was he lived it to the fullest……So in the words of my man PIMP C…To all TSS….”Smoke Sumtin Bitch”
R.I.P. PIMP C..The game will not be the same without you…See you when I see you
Lil Wayne- Smoking Section

Sir G… late pass for me on the posting, but well, well spoken brother…
“So, fuck’em, Pimp.
You did it your way. You made your share of mistakes & had your share of triumphs.
And you lived your life to the fullest. “
That’s what’s up…
on a happier note…..went to little brother show tonight in brooklyn. they ripped it. evidence really ripped it too.
We can’t keep losin’ our legends like this.
Hopefully this will make us wake up and honor hip hop’s pioneers while they’re still here.
Study your art.

R.I.P. Pimp C
Perfect write up Gotty – definitely captured this sad moment. Perfect song choice as well.
Damn. Another one gone…
Perfect song choice as well.
==========
Song choice = all Beware.
Team effort.
@ franchise-
yeah it was at southpaw….good spot. nice venue and the sound was on point. some group started (forgot their name)…they were nice. Then this cat named Torae came on and ripped it (nice too). Then Evidence came on….did mad songs off Weatherman and Dilated Peoples stuff…then LB came through and killed it…mixing stuff from The Listening, Getback, and Minstrel Show.
I’m dying at work now…show was well worth the $15. I have a new appreciation for Little Brother (excellent live show) and Evidence.
i went to the show in orlando and we had evidence rip it and alchemist come out to do a couple songs with him. First time seeing LB and they were everything i expected full of energy and great people all together.. They were giving anyone a autograph after the show and it seemed like they really appreciated the fans as much as we did them.. Wish more artists had the kind of view as LB..
^ LB’s back & forth w/all the fans was…it kinda had me in awe. They seem so far removed @ times, but then at a show, you see them close up w/their fans, truly working the crowd & then staying afterwards to snap pics & shit. It’s like “man, that money I spent supporting these dudes was well worth it.”
As for Pimp, the same thoughts came to me as well like dude had to have the shit straight from below the border if he tooted enough for that to be the cause of death. I think sitting back & waiting on a cause of death is really in order @ this point, instead of assuming too too much.
