“Jay Elect Superstar” - The Search For Jay Electronica
GENERAL By Gotty™ on December 29, 2007 at 2:03 pm
Jay Electronica has a portion of the innernuts losin’ it, as if an album has never been pushed back or an artist reniggin’ on his word to release an album by a certain date.
His Myspace morphed into a butterfly.
I have to admit that I was equal parts pissed & pleased when I read that Act II: Patents of Nobility (The Turn) was going to drop on Christmas. First of all, who the fuck is a Jay Electronica to usurp Kris Kringle & infant Baby Jesus on the only day they get in one year? Does not Mr. Electronica know that I wanted to spend time with my family & not sitting in my leather executive chair, refreshing his Myspace & rappersiknow pages, eagerly awaiting a chance to download his latest material?
But I was pleased because a chance to hear more from this strange man, described as an alien by Erykah Badu (who’s strange her damn self) & signed to her Control FreaQ label. The man cosigned by Just Blaze & many other heads. The man who’s voice & content harken back to a cultured mix of Ultra Mags, Organized with hints of Pac & Paris.
Christmas has passed & I didn’t get everything I wanted anyways…so, Mr. Elect, don’t rush. Take your time & when you do bless us, make sure it’s proper.
We’re anticipating this.

December 25th isn’t the only day Christmas is celebrated…until then, we’ll all sleep with our third eyes open and our internet connections ready.
hehe…a cryptic msg like that will only help increase the furor man. you know better than that!
LMAO
I’ve been hearing a lot about this Electronica cat, is it worth a listen? Some of my crew swear he’s the illest right now.
Flea!
listen man, listen… and if you don’t listen to anything else, listen to Eternal Sunshine to really get a feel of where this dude is coming from.
Was just listening to Style Wars on my ipod and dammit if TSS ain’t in my gawddamn head.
Flea - He’s real hyped right now. Some justified, some not. Simple as that & just like anybody else that people decide is going to be the next big thing.
The Pledge is a good listen, even more esp if you’ve seen Eternal Sunshine…
Style Wars has a few good cuts as well.
He’s not everybody’s cup of tea, but he’s doing some pretty interesting stuff.
Drop links from this homie, cause I never heard any of his material. Where homie from?
Flea, I had to get my Greums on to do part of one of his verses a little justice:
“so I aint got time/to argue wit a rapper bout/how he aint got rhymes that’s fuckin wit mines/I’m trying to kill Lucifer/so if I have to break cuz a rapper in my face/tellin me that he the great/you could bet a shiny nickel I blast his mutherfuc*in azz/way past Jupiter/he couldn’t be stupider/fu*kin
with the nuc-ular (nuclear)/Mayan/Aztec lion/Asiatic Black man from Zion…”
Enig - I’m mad b/c you just set the innernuts back into relapse w/that comment lol
Forty - New Orleans. Style Wars is up there in the post.

Jay electronica archives.
Word, I’m real salty about Act II not coming on Xmas day.
That was basically my plan for Xmas.
1. Avoid annoying family members
2. Watch the new Futurama DVD
3. Listen to Act II
I was gonna do 1 & 3.
Fela Pt 2 went up a day or two after Pt 1.
Yea Jays mean..I’m really liking Saul Williams ‘Niggy Tardust’ at the mo…Really fresh
Everybody told me to be patient. but who was sleeping from couch to couch, & basement to basement
But Jay, Man/Satan tryna block My shine like Ray-Ban’s
Haterz never wanna see You bubble, they’d rather to see You struggle, that’s life, My Nigga
Alot of faker’s in the place were invited to taste
And told me right to My face, “Yeah, that’s tight, My Nigga. You reppin that Dirty South Dog, Aight My Nigga”
But they wouldn’t lift a finger to light they incense Or let the smoke linger
I ain’t a Hot Boy, but the flow’s jalapena
I’m never yappin bout how the calico’ll lean ya
Magnolia, crack soldier, creepin on a come up
My Grandmother won’t leave the fuckin Projects, I gotta raise the slum up
These nerds at record labels played Me dumb & dumber/so I showed the industry My asscrack like a plumber
Now ASCAP bangin on My door like a drummer
The fall’s bout to put a period on the summer
But back to the the point, they wanna see Me fucked up, kicks scuffed up layin back wit a joint
They said “Good things come to those that wait”, Well, I don’t know about that/And if You can’t feel this rhyme, then sorry Jack, You don’t know about rap/And if You don’t know struggle, You don’t know about Black
And I don’t give a fuck what Bill Cosby said
Cause the problem gonna exist when Bill Cosby’s dead
And I don’t think the revealation from the supreme being’s residing or hidin out in Bill Cosby’s head This just the thoughts or a soldier, and if You don’t like it, play dead or roll over, the game is so over, the rain(reign) is so over…

I think I’ll check this guy out, given all these dope lyrics I’ve been reading plus the unanimous praise from all of the TSS community. I’ll take a listen tonight.
I haven’t heard any of this guy’s stuff, so I’m gonna check him out also. Let’s see what the fuss is all about.
Those okayplayers be geeking.
Lol…I’m just sayin’…do the knowledge and expect the unexpected.
i, for one, was pleasantly suprised back a few months when TSS first posted about dude. that negro is ill. i can’t even front, some of the shit he’s saying is way out there, but a lot of it is on some interesting and thought provoking subjects.

I listened to Act II after ignoring dude for a while just on the strength of his name. Granted, you see so many new cats come out and you’re like ok. Who cares? Just another rapper who you’ll ignore after listening to the album.
Gotta say, Act II, kinda blew my f-ing mind. I’ve been listening to it nonstop for about a week now staright(even now), which I guess isn’t really healthy epeically considering it’s 5 songs, but I can’t stop listening. Listening to when the Levies Broke gives me the chills. Kinda like when I first listened to Nas.
Gotta say where the hell did they find this guy? Dude’s like a puzzle. An enigma; which I guess only add to the anticipation. Can’t put my finger on it, but there’s just something about his music and the way the concept are put together and the way he rhymes. It’s exceptional; special; poetic.
^ I think there’s a smidge of hype mixed in there but honestly, dude’s good w/his man. i approached it the same way like “lemme see what the fuss is about” and then was listened & said ‘WOW’
yo’ you check dis?

Yo I will back this cat in Md. He brings dat funk, logic and lyricism that i look for in an artist. I can tell by his lyrical content he has been inlightened meaning he know whats going on globaly with the truth that lies hide. I was introduced to JAY by D.PROSPER and anyone he backs is authentic after all he does have 5 platnium records. BACK JAY ELECT.
