Thief’s Theme?

Baltimore artist Wordsmith is coming forward to “state the facts and not attack Nas” about the alleged swiping of his song (Posted on his Myspace blog.)
This isn’t as absurd as Yayo tilting his head over to speak out of his neck, saying Ghost didn’t write Supreme Clientele. Using my two good ears, I can listen to the track, titled “The Art Fades Away,” (Produced by Strada) compare it to
Nas’ “Surviving The Times”and say “yeah, he may have a point.” But, I still find it somewhat unfathomable that Nas would knowingly bite dude’s whole song, all the way down to the concept. Imagine Nas scouring Myspace or some underground battle hotspot & making this track the pick of the litter.
If I were to point fingers, I’d most likely aim it @ whoever produced the track(s). Thus far, Nas’ track has been credited as being crafted by Chris Webber. I’m not going out looking for the missing link between the Wordsmith track, its producer, Strada, and Chris Webber, but…enh. Could it simply be that Webber, who’s been ghosting for beats for a while, forgot who he gave the beat to in the first place? Did he pay Strada or just jack him?
In the end, if Words wanted the acclaim, he should’ve shined harder on the track. Because like Jay once told Nas, “you made it a hot line, I made a hot song.”
It looks like Prodigy will have to lay down for a few months after pleading guilty to criminal possession of a handgun. I was already banking on the fact that he’d get time given that he’s a two-time felon. Tough break. As many L’s as these dudes have repeatedly taken in the streets, I cannot imagine how much money he’s gonna have to pay to stay safe in the belly of the beast. Better duct tape those phone books real tight, word to Omar Little.
In more relevant news, but perhaps only to me…

always been a nas fan.. never seen him as the biting or jacking type.. i wonder who’s gonna grab joey now that he and def jam have parted ways.. probaly go koch like so many other artists…MOOD MUZIK 3…
On the brighter side of things, no more “raps” from Prodigy for a few years. Dude was beginning to taint the Mobb’s legacy a little too much….
when and why did field mob break up!?!?!?!?!
wordsworth isnt a dude that would do this for publicity. Hes right that the beat was jacked.
why would prodigy confess in the middle of his trial? the whole point of taking it to trial in the first place is to try and prove you’re not guilty.
Bankhead…Wordsworth and Wordsmith are two completely diff. dudes..
LOL @ ^^
u can check the validity of Wordsmith’s claims here:

Field Mob didn’t break up. I think that song is from the new DTP album “Strength In Numbers”
i think he should have a problem with Chris webber for doing that first of all…
and Az And Madlib as Quasimoto have both done this before with Ho happy Jackie and Money Hungry Bitches, both different producers used the same sample arranged quite similar and both rapped about the same topic, there are various instances where rappers are inspired by similar beats to talk about similar subject matter, He acts like he’s the only person on earth who could of done that.
but I’m not ruling out that it might of happened.
Who Knows? but I doubt Nas would bite, seeing as how he’s better.
@Slick

i think webber comes to nas and says he has a great track and a great concept…nas unknowingly runs with it and this is what we got
yes…its possible for producers to use the same sample…but never arrange the drums, horns and almost everything else the same exact way
meh…silly wife beating beat jacking chris webber…stick to being a subpar NBA player
IMO Its not about who does a track first its about who does it the best…first is sometimes overrated
Didn’t Jean Greasy use that “what would i do” sample?
np Bankhead..knew where you were coming from..
“IMO Its not about who does a track first its about who does it the best”
possibly the stupidest statement ever.

^ I disagree and it’s almost the same thing I said originally. And I still think it’s true.
Is the original still important? Yes.
It most cases, the remake is weaker than the orig. but on this one, Nas did it better. Therefore, more folks are going to listen to and remember Nas’ version.

yall are speaking from a listeners perspective, im thinking about it from an artists perspective, its 1 thing 2 have some1 sample u or remake ur track with permission…but 2 have some steal ur original concept- thats fucked up no matter how much better they do it or dont do it.

Artists copy styles all the time. From the art world to the music one. Rappers do it and producers do it all the time (think samples). I think we should make more of a big deal when producers steal rather than rappers. Read this article and tell me if you agree:
http://jrod24p1.wordpress.com/2007/10/10/samples-vs-original-beats/
guys are trippin. the beat, straight up, has that old school, laid-back appeal to it, and it is very cool. I think a lot of rappers would reminisce over track. plus, beats/samples are used, re-used all the time, could also just be different producers chopping up the same beat, happens. def feeling Nas’ though over Word’s, word.
seems 2 me that all yall cats havent even listened 2 the 2 songs, its not some flippin the same sample or kinda the same idea shit- the entire beat is the fuckin same- an again- with sampling- artists are required 2 pay and clear samples- this shit was stolen. im sure if it was the otha way around cats would be shittin on Wordsmith 4 biting.

hold up.. chevy p FORMERLY of field mob? what happened, i fucks with them dudes.
I’m with Wit-E on this one. The whole track is the same, drums, bass, sample. Except for the concept of the lyrics. NaS is rhymin about his own career and life, while Wordsmith is rhymin about Hip-Hop.
nice post
