Now THAT is more like it!!!
Makes the energy of that Pharrell track seem stuck in the mud… Blue what???
That right there is the old Hov I remember… I’m feeling the way they flipped (elements of) the original piano sample…
* Excuse me while I have one of those ‘I Love Hip-Hop moments’ right now*
Think about it though. When wa the last hip hop concept album that moved you? Last one I can think of was College Dropout. Or shit, ATLiens.
However, I don’t think Jigga will treat this like a real album. He’ll treat it like a soundtrack, and use that as the excuse for poor sales, ala M. Carey’s Sparkle and Outkast’s Idlewild. Should be dope though.
@ D.S.
*sigh*
sad but true…
maybe one or two more ‘concept albums’, here and there did a lil’ sumn… but, *sigh*
I hope not though. The intro of this DP3 got me a lil’ more interested. Jay’s always made the M. Jordan analogies, so hopefully he ain’t recording this album in a Wizards jersey…

Some reason I just don’t believe Jay-Z and American Gangster to be in the same sentence.

Prodigy (Mobb Deep) has been sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a loaded gun Tuesday (Oct. 9).
SMH … see original story below
Two hip-hop heavies were arrested early yesterday for gun possession after making a u-turn in a $120,000 bulletproof SUV, police said.
Queens-based rapper Prodigy and Los Angeles beat-maker The Alchemist were stopped by cops at about 2:15 a.m. for an illegal parking maneuver in Chelsea.
The customized Chevy Suburban, driven by G-Unit member Prodigy, was going east on West 30th Street when it turned left on Ninth Avenue and headed north – the wrong way – then made a U-turn to get into a parking spot.
Cops spotted the move and pulled the pair over.
As officers shined a flashlight into the vehicle, Prodigy was seen “squirming” to block something police sources said. A search revealed a .22 caliber handgun in the front center console, cops said. Both men were charged with criminal possession of a weapon.
At their arraignment, Prodigy 31, whose real name is Albert Johnson, was released on $7,500 bail. Afterward, he called the charges “bull- – - -.”
The Alchemist, whose real name is Alan Maman, was released on his own recognizance.
Sidebar:
Alchemist charges where dropped…
Honestly, I think this album is gonna be something like a fictional story book. Jay-Z is talented with his, and this album should be just a story book of gangsterisms. Pac wasn’t no gangster either, yet, on All Eyez On Me, nuff said. I don’t think Jigga has to be that conviencing on this, but he has to be entertaining. Might wanna get some real gangstas on this.
American Gangster should be a dope
record. From the looks of the 1st two
pieces we’ve heard.
Prodigy has had a bad few wks…1st
Saigon steals on em and then 3.5 in
the bing..
Darius Sinclair (uptop): Who cares if the album doesn’t sell well. Reasonable Doubt didn’t sell well, Illmatic didn’t sell well. But they are two of the most important albums in the game. Do we really need more POP albums…….really? Nov 6th Bitch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish I wouldn’t have read about Prodigy, that really fucks up my mood.
damn that sucks about prodigy. alchemist must’ve had no priors. that’s the only way i could see him getting off scott free. oh and it wasn’t his car either.
this should offset the effects of that awesome kid rock album.

P had two felonies. Big difference.
OK, It must just be me that is expecting this new Jay-Z album to be poor. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one extremely disappointed in Kingdom Come, and I don’t see what would have put the passion back into Hov to make another ‘Reasonable Doubt’ quality album. Other than hearing everyone trash the shit out of your last CD of course.
Also, I know they’re decent lyrics and comparisons, but really, how many fucking times is Jay-Z going to compare himself to Jordan or some shit like that. Its just lazy lyricism if you ask me. I’m still not seeing anything special to tell me this will be any better than Kingdom Come (but if you liked that album, then fair enough).
I dunno, maybe its just me being harsh on the man because I expect so much from him as an artist due to his past records.
Totally agree with Gotty’s input: “This could really get interesting if Hovito puts some energy behind his verses.”
Thing is, thats a very big IF.
Appearence lies to us

that sucks about P… folks like to clown dude and all, and a lot of times he seems to invite it, but the bing is the bing.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of Jay’s last album either, but (unfortunately) a half-hearted effort from J trumps a large percentage of what you hear nowadays…
[this, I know, is not a good thing... but it pretty much the truth.]
i Still stick by my above comments, but listening back to that song a couple more times i have to admit…it does sound great. That beat is mean. Even more so than DP II.
I hope the album as a whole is more like this than like Blue Magic.
“D Jones, Holiday Styles, yeah, you ready for this
I hope so, listen to my boy blow, Untouchable baby…
No game I just kick it basic
I’m Holiday Styles and every pocket in my pants got big faces
Yeah I got twin bulks
When I tell you to put me down girl I ain’t talkin about a insult
You should just hold me down
Light my blunts, count my money, load my rounds
Drive my V’s, I’m locked down hide my keys
Need a chick that’ll ride with me, what
If it’s green and it’s made out of paper, I’m a get it
She look mean so wherever I take her, I’m a hit it
But not the back truck the seats feel comfortable
I don’t think you a skank I wanna get it crunk with you
I know you a lady ma (I know you a lady)
But you ridin with a gangsta girl gotta keep it gravy ma
Just listen when my foot be down
And I’m far from a clown so just put me down”

This album won’t do well because Jay-Z is played, and is style is too. He has nothing to talk about and is basically making this album out of boredom. I think Chicago is going to be the next great city for hip hop in terms of style and flow. If you don’t believe me, read this article: http://jrod24p1.wordpress.com/2007/10/08/rants/

To everyone thinking that Jay won’t treat this release like a true album….
I think Jay has something to prove with all of the heat he got from Kindom Come. “DP3″ gives me the feeling that I wanted to get from “Blue Magic”. Sounds pretty fresh to me.
I read that little link that said this song was “old” (GTFOH)….
Well I ain’t hear that shit until last night…. and apparently the aggins that wrote that shit didn’t either. It’s sad how we all wanna be the first to hear shit ain’t it? You groupies!
One of the best concept albums that came out was by the CunninLynguists- A Piece of Strange.
If Jay is hungry the album will be fine, but next month? Damn that came out quick
@ Frank… Thanks for that Radiohead. I was gonna get it from their site, but I wasn’t about to pu tmy phone number up in that piece. ‘Ppreciate it.
I’m pretty sure A piece of Strange wasn’t a concept album at all.
