“It’s The ‘Nuts…”
GENERAL By Gotty™ on October 31, 2007 at 11:28 am
These dudes have to be an all-time favorite group of mine. When they first came out, The Source hyped them as sound architects of the future. Being young @ the time, it took me a while, a lot of weed to enhance my listening and starting to understand musical engineering & production to grasp why they were receiving all the kudos they were getting. But once I started listening, I was hooked.
They were never as violent as M.O.P., but they were pretty brash, making songs like “Reign Of The Tec’.” They weren’t overachieving party animals like the Beastie Boys. However, when you cue up “Psycho Dwarf” and the repetitive chorus of “I wanna fuck, drink beer, and smoke some shit,” anybody who remembers rockin Aiwa headphones is sure to put on a scowl and liable to start bouncing around into people. Characters like Biz Mark & Kool Keith always had the “Clown Prince of Rap” crown on lock, but the ‘Nuts ran a close third simply for the track “Lick The Pussy.” And at the time, I always found it kinda hard, but humorous, to tell folks one of my favorite groups was named “The Beatnuts.”
Above all, what made the ‘Nuts standout out…their beats. The masses didn’t even take notice until they were seemingly on a descent & popped back up swinging with the flute-laced “Off The Books” featuring Big Punisher. I was glad to see them finally score a hit and get the recognition, but their better work came well before that on their self-titled release (or was that joint officially titled Street Level? I never understood that) and Intoxicated Demons.
Whatever the case may be, I still play “Finger Smoke” eight times consecutively like it’s the first time I’ve heard it.
It’s the ‘Nuts baby.

maximum de respect,
sisi
Definite co-sign on that Nacho, that Psycho Les “Psycho Therapy” is fucking crazy! I never really bumped much BeatNuts, but I do own the “Take It Or Squeeze” album which is pretty dope too plus the “Stone Crazy” album. I think these guys are pretty much slept on in terms of production, and even as lyricists to some extent. I’ll never forgive J-Lo for jacking that sample from them for “Jenny From The Block”, that was some bullshit!!!
Street Level is a bonafide classic…back when Al Tariq were still a part of the group. That Stone Crazy EP with “reign of the tec” can still get my head nodding something serious. That fucking sample they used…some funky ass 70’s style blaxploitation beat…is gem.
i shall download all of this as most of their shit i have is on tape.
for real j-lo needs to pay style support to whole bunch heads for beat jacking. Beatnuts always held it down, throw on that “watch out now” joint and watch any party turn into a rock stready reunion.

Pittsburgh Slim is Doo Doo! Hov must’ve signed him as favor to Ski. This is what’s killing Hip-

I’d advise gettin these shits while they’re here…b/c once they’re gone…well, you know.
I really do have a soft spot for the Beatnuts. Their production is so overlooked.
“Do You Believe?” will always be my personal favorite Beatnut song. The entire Stone Crazy album was fuckin dope.
My bad to get off the subject TSS, shout out to Beatnuts…..
But did anyone peep this shit??
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1whKQBcnLiQ
This is my first time posting a link so tell me if i did it right.
Is Hip-hop taking over or what….
TSS needs to do a post about the state of hip-hop and how the media/public does not want to take it as a serious genre of music.
But did anyone peep this shit??
==============================================
That right there is why I love white people. It’s always a trip to see the kids Superman that hoe.
Wikipedia: “In June 2007, Psycho Les and Ju Ju joined with Al Tariq and Problemz to release LP “The City Never Sleeps” under the artist title “Big City”.”

Greums,
Merci pour le Busta Flex! J’me rapelle quand Nuff Respect venait de sortir, c’etait fou dans les clubs.

And major salutes for the ‘Nuts albums….
I heard off the books on the radio today and then I come home to this.
Nice.
i noticed no one really mentioned ‘musical massacre’. am i the only one who thought verbal murder 2 was money?
Far from the halls, all, one day perhaps, one will further go than the avenues which little reflect us. Further that our streets, just to find the exit, to change point of view, to escape from the walls, to see above.
COCO TASO!
my son was concieved the night I saw The Beatnuts @ Jazz Cafe in London. They smashed it… and so did I
