“Words From A Genius”
GENERAL By Gotty™ on September 1, 2007 at 12:17 pm
I am not a genius but I do play one online. (Don’t we all?)
Yet & still, I still felt the need to inform you of the following random thoughts that have occurred to me. Read @ your own risk.
After 9.11.07, what records are there really left to look forward to? Are there no big-names aiming to get that last little bit of fourth quarter, holiday money? And before you try it, Mr. Label Exec, no thanks on “remastered” versions & repackaged bs. We want some new material from one of the big names.
With the whole hype over the Twin Towers soon to subside, where will the media focus it’s attention next?
Who really believes 50 is going to retire if Kanye outsold him? And will Kanye’s leak, and 50’s dirty version not leaking, actually hurt ‘Ye’s chances of trumping Mr. Jackson?
In the big scheme of things though, no CD is gonna do numbers…unless it’s backed by Disney, straight up. Sales-wise, the soundtracks for both High School Musical’s shit on the rest of the industry as a whole.
Two things…and I can only speak for myself because I never rush to judge an album. But “Good Life” = pure piffery. And even more, “Everything I Am” is the ‘Ye I know and love. The lyrics – self-effacing, bravado and guard both down – and the lazy piano with the low wail in the back is indeed G.O.O.D. music.
A-Trak’s version of “Harder. Better. Faster. Stronger” > The one on Graduation.
While on the subject, trill business – Kanye is “cool” as an artist & musically…because of those three dudes pictured above. So let us break here and pay homage…
Amen.
Continuing on…
After listening to The Firm album for the past few days and I remember it originally got panned by critics. I’ve decided that it could’ve been truly monumental with a few minor changes…
A.) Take off Nas, add Mega Montana. Nas’ whole Esco steez was tired by then anyways.
B.) More AZ verses, less Fox Boogie (or perhaps a little bit rawer version of her) and…
C.) Even more Nature. Nat straight shit on every track he was on. For reference, listen to “Five Minutes To Flush” (“About a minute went by they knocked harder/My bitch went hysterical in shock/Slapped her to calm her…“) and even over the mudane beat of “Firm Family”.
Well, maybe leaving off Nas might be considered a major change & the album wouldn’t have garnered publicity…but for an area full of some of hip-hop’s most lyrical MCs, I just wish one day they’d all put their differences aside & do a compilation album to end all compilation albums. Queens truly reigns supreme if you look @ the talent produced from that borough.
Flipping channels last night I saw AJ, formerly of 106 & Park and now a correspondant for Extra!, interviewing Hilary Clinton. Even though he cried when they left BET, I can imagine interviewing folks the caliber of Hillary Clinton has to be more invigorating than sitting on that couch listening to Lil Bow Wow babble.
But where’s Free’s fatty-havin’ ass at?
There is nothing wrong with liking Soulja Boy, the “Cupid Shuffle” or Chris Brown. I promise.
Music isn’t always art people.
Sure, these artists & their music may do nothing for your brain nor satisfy your soul, but sometimes, it’s okay for music to be purely for entertainment & escapism. If you’ve never seen a pack of more than five kids, go crazy and start dancing in sync when the latest greatest radio dance hit comes on, then maybe you can’t relate…and maybe you need to get offline, take your earbuds out & go connect with the youth again.
I can see myself speaking more on that whole dynamic later. But for now, just know that music is indeed still alive.
On a lighter note, I’m not one of those dudes who fronts on chicks online. If I see her & she threw her skirt up, I’d beat it up for the sake of all mankind & my financial future, word to K-Fed. But I swear Rhianna & her head as combined entities are not that attractive to me.
If you were quick & keeping up with updates the other day, you heard a “fake Ne-Yo” track. Well, there’s a chance you’ll hear that song again…with a young female singer you “Idol”ize doing the vocals. Sshhh. You ain’t heard that from us.
Ain’t it good that even when you make mistakes, they still turn out good and you were ahead of the pack?
It’s like banking a three and fuck yeah we called “glass” hoe haha.

I’m the worst @ remembering song title’s but those in bold = solid tracks.
I think fans & critics just expected a whole lot more when you see the name’s associated with the project.
Trizzy shit on that remix (in a good way). So did my nigga Mano. Get familiar.

Youth gone wild.
My question is, who wants a black Kate Moss? A black Kate Moss is basically Naomi Campbell with a lot less aggression.
^ I’ve been running around w/that line stuck in my head for the past 24 hrs.
lol…welcome to MY world.
Don’t mean to postjack, but
WHAT YALL KNOW BOUT DEM APPALACHIAN STATE MOUNTAINEERS!

Riahnna got a straight up melon head..lol. Make up does wonders even for a chick at wall mart…whud my regular broads…lol
I highlighted “Desperados” (or at least tried to). I remember when that shit had Clue tapes on FIRE.

Peace y’all

De La Soul was and still is the most underrated group in hip hop history. They were so innovative and ahead of their time its not even funny.
Oh well, at least me and Dave aka Trugoy the Dove share the same born date.
Virgos rule the world.
-The Black Hey Zeus!
Yeah. I can’t co-sign on The Firm either….but I WILL listen again…
i have seen TQ a bunch. i think he is living in Mobile AL, if not he is here alot.
Phone Tap = HARD.
Damn I remember this shit from the day.
Come on Gotty, A-Trak’s “Harder Better Faster Stronger” is no where near Graduation’s “Stronger”. A-Trak’s shit is good, but with Timbo on the drums, the ” original” track became a classic. For all that think you can’t tell the difference, take another listen…
AYO Gotti remember the Phonte post u put up about the mike tyson game?? check out Murs!!!

Murray’s Revenge.
yes to ri-ri
Yeah, I would beat the brakes off of Rihanna! With the quickness.
I think I go for the random posts so much more than the directed thought. It’s always good to just get those “loose thoughts” out. Peace Gotty.
1.)Yes, “Everything I Am” is that hotness. Especially with Primo on the scratches. His style on the 1’s and 2’s are his signature, and oddly enough can be recognized easier than other DJ’s.
2.)Yes, “Good Life” has been gettin’ crazy play since I heard it on Entourage last week.
3.)The Firm album, helped make 90’s hip-hop what it is. Period. Nore know this, and Nore know that… (still love that song).
4.)Rihanna gets beat down on site. Period.
5.)De La Soul and a few beers on a summer afternoon = thoughts of beating down Rihanna on site.
6.)I’ve been trying to hold back, but I have to admit, TSS has become my favorite site on the net. Period.
7.)B-Starks,… I know you still in “honeymoon” mode, but what’s the deal with another one of those fly ass Kirk-out Hours? We need those.
Peace ya’ll
NORE knows gats, why?
cuz NORE buck that…
LMAO @ D.H.
Noreality: 0 Mics
^^ Hate to say it, but agreed.
We lost to Appalachian State…in football…I don’t know how to explain that one.
That’s terrible.
I saw that Murs shit earlier somewhere as I was taking my weekly e-rounds. I’m feelin it.
I guess I’m somewhat partial to A-Trak b/c he brings that intensity that only a dope ass dj who’s in tune w/the clubs & parties can. It’s that same thing that, in my mind, will always keep cats like Kid Capri, Jazzy Jeff & Biz Markie drawing in crowds. Nah, he’s not on that same level but he’s got an energy in his music.
And yo! I got plenty of random thoughts but then folks get mad b/c it’s more “blogging” than the polished TSS we’ve grown into.
But we’re still talkin shit, word to Easy-E.
Gotty,
Don’t forget what got you where you are today. Those “random” thoughts are the foundation of what TSS is today. So keep’em coming. It’s funny how hyped the release of the Firm was, because EVERYBODY was hyped about it. The product didn’t live up to the hype, but after affirmative action and Cormega not on it, it really didn’t have a chance.
I actually liked the Firm album. It definitely wasn’t any of those artists best efforts, but I’m still glad I bought it.
Granted, all of those hot joints were on just about every mixtape that came out around that time… Clue, Lazy K, Chubby Chubb, Doo Wop, S&S… all of them had “Phone Tap” on at least one mixtape back then.
I blame the Firm album not being what we all thought it would on muthafuckin’ label execs. Steve Stoute & Chris Lighty have done a lot for hip-hop music, but may possibly be the ones who f’ed the Firm up.
Oh yeah…
8.) After 9/11… I don’t know about you, but I’ll be looking for “Getback”. They may still not be considered “big names” to some… but if you’ve seen these niggas live…. O….M…G!
No lie, Getback was in my mind as I typed that shit but I knew a) it’d be biased & truth be told b) LB isn’t a “big name” group. Definitely looking forward to it though b/c their Mick Boogie tape was fire.
Speaking of Mick, I’m waiting to see what Kidz In The Hall do w/their tape w/him.
Michigan losing to A.State is a pure stunner.
& it reminds me that I need to get back on my college football betting. I’m sure that game would’ve ruined my day for sure though lol.
That Kidz & Mick Boogie should be something special… most definitely.
Breakadawn is such a fantastic song. De La and Prince Paul never get the credit they deserve. Hmm… maybe I’ll do a writeup on 3 feet high and rising…
On a lighter note, I’m not one of those dudes who fronts on chicks online. If I see her & she threw her skirt up, I’d beat it up for the sake of all mankind & my financial future, word to K-Fed.
=========
Tha f*ck?
Who? What?
Tha f*ck?
I’m looking 4wd to these fall/winter releases -
Jill Scott
Seal (yes he’s back)
Alicia Keys
Annie Lennox
that Murs video is pretty dope…
^^^On the De La Tip I gotta agree with Boney Starks…..
“Oh well, at least me and Dave aka Trugoy the Dove share the same born date”
I met Dave aka Dove when I was frying my balls off on some shrooms. He’s a down to earth extra cool cat. Over all a crazy night that i’ll never forget..
matter of fact, I think Gotty got the pic in his stash somewhere…
