TQ

TQ’s music, most notably his singles, are kinda cheesy.

He loves to draw out his choruses. His word selection is limited. While his beats are nice, they all seem to carry the same the feel. With his “yea yea”s and “oooo ooo”s, he takes the easy way out of layering his songs. And, most of all, he always relies on the most played-out themes, such as “what if,” “ghetto gospel,” and “god bless the dead.”

But, since that’s basically just R&B in general, I really can’t hate.

What I can do, on the other hand, is appreciate.

As the singer responsible for one of my favorite albums of all time, They Never Saw Me Coming, I really have nothing but love. The man is, without question, extremely talented. He’s got an amazing voice and range, a delivery smoother than silk and, despite his lack of success, he’s clearly put in his work.

So, no matter how unoriginal his songs can get, the majority of his music is far above the norm. It’s uplifting, and can sometimes even generate feelings that many artists don’t experience themselves. That’s why I’ll be making the trip to Best Buy when his new album, Paradise, finally drops.

I only support the good artists, especially when they deserve it.

TQ – Paradise
