Corey hit me early early this morning, prolly the second email I saw on my phone.
“Do you have something lined up for Pac today?”
Actually, no but with good reason given all the other stuff we’ve been working on for the past few days. Maybe not the most sufficient excuse for some of you, but still…
Then Dirk hit me asking about a piece as well. I downplayed it.
And that’s when I started really realizing…
I, like many others, are still in denial of Pac’s death. In fact, the thought of his death pushes me towards a state where I’m not sure if I’m writing this for you all or for myself.
“I smoke my Newport to the butt
Like it’s the last motherfucker left
Just me and you evading enemies
Let you get my last shot of Hennessy
Ain’t never had a friend like me…”
It in a peculiar way, Tupac was almost a friend. He was there as I went from teenage years to early 20′s. With the proliferation of work he did, there’s always going to be at least one or two songs of his songs that can relate to whatever your current situation and mentality might be. For me, that’s part of the solace I find in music. When I can’t find the words or feel like I’m going through something others may not understand, there’s always a song to better say what’s on my mind. And at many of those turns, there’s Pac.
But loving & respecting Pac is hard because that requires loving and honoring some of the very things that I hate most the things Black males and Black people as a whole, put on a pedestal that borders on sacrilege.
Violence. A untempered amount of illogic that sometimes has fatal results. The glorified wearing of R.I.P. shirts. Oftentimes using our energies for negativity. The constant struggle to prove manhood. So many things.
So when I think of his death, character traits & behaviors that he possessed that perhaps led to his early death, it’s hard to acknowledge his death.
See, there’s many things I love about my people & my hood. But there’s others I detest. And on a larger level, Tupac Amaru personified both sides of that equation, as only a true Gemini could.
But, good & bad qualities aside, he’s still my friend.

man…thats EXACTLY how i feel G.
That one of the reason I’ve always had a love for music. Music, more specifically hiphop been a way for me to express myself. Whether it was getting ready to hit up club, or losing a loved one, hiphop has been the voice when I didn’t have one.
I was young when pac died and when I heard the news I was like daaaaaaamn. Dude was larger than life, so many rappers are just terrible caricatures of Pac’s personality.
This aint got shit to do with Pac but

How long will they mourn me?!!
What ever happened to that dood Syke? I know he dropped a few CD on the low but I liked his style.
It’s hard not to long for what he might have become. What he might have done; might have accomplished. Not just in rapping and acting, but in the influence he had. Who’s to say this fucked up generation we currently have wouldn’t be so fucked up if he (and individuals like him) hadn’t been taken from us and never rightfully given justice.
When he died, he was very much a man in transition as many of our young men were, but I strongly believe he would have allowed the world to again embrace the spiritual, positive man we know him to be. There’s always this thought in the back of our heads that maybe if he was allowed to make that transition, to grow and to evolve, those men might have grown with him.

Anybody got that new Roots joint that is on iTunes? It’s called Marathon Man. Peace and Thanks.
could somebody post the OST of Grindlock’d?
I’m feeeling you so much on what you wrote about pac. he made the soundtrack to my “wild” teenage years, when he died I was 20 years old. still there is no other rapper who touches me with his lyrics the way he did (does). R.I.P.
this just in:
Eminem has been working on brand new material.
The Detroit rapper made the revelations when he called New York hip hop radio station Hot 97 during a 50 Cent interview September 13, reports Billboard.
Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers reportedly said “I’m always working – I’m always in the studio. It feels good right now, the energy of the label. For a while, I didn’t want to go back to the studio… I went through some personal things. I’m coming out of those personal things [and] it feels good.”
He also said he would release the record “tomorrow”, the actual release date remains undetermined.
hey ppl
just came back from Shanghai, i just wanted to know what happened in the 50/Ye competition… Did 50 quit the rap game ?
Anybody got that Gucci Mane-”Freaky Girl”?
i remember that day clearly. i was in high school and everyone was crying, and i was like “wasup?”
then i heard pac died.
the kids wanted the day off, and that made me realize for one: thats pretty funny ( for the day off), but two: this man had such an impact on people especially teens.

Dude was a force.
I still kinda think he’s still alive, too. Its almost embarrassing. How can a dude with such fore site let himself get setup like that? Aside from the Machiavelli obviousness, it just seems like it was a too easy way out. A part of me thinks he’s in Honduras married to Left-eye and I think Suge hooked it up. He’s living tax free away from the Media, living the life he wants to lead. Thats just me, though.
