Dogg Food. Get Rich or Die Tryin. Chronic 2001. Straight Outta Compton. The Marshall Mathers LP. Doggystyle. The Documentary. 100 Miles N Runnin. No One Can Do It Better. The Eminem Show. The Chronic…
Because of his list of credentials, when you’re working with the Good Doc, you simply don’t have any excuses. Getting a chance to work with the most innovative man in music, possibly ever, is something that can either make or break your career. He’s been there, done that, and more than anything…he knows how to make a hit record.
He also knows how start legacies.
So, if you’re his hot new prospect, you better bring your 4.0 game. The man’s responsible for three out of the five of the most renowned rappers in the world today, and he’s in the midst of a making the most anticipated album of all time. That said, the Doc is definitely in the operating room, getting a new apprentice ready for the masses.
His newest creation, the bionic man from Carson, CA, is Bishop Lamont.
In the W, dude’s got more buzz than a trashed bumblebee. Everywhere else, though, not so much. What I’m wondering is…how?
With a really unique flow, smart lyrics, and a hip-hop dictionary as his mental, his talent is nothing to scoff at. His last mixtape, Nigger Noise, was undeniably banging and his collabo-tape with Black Milk, Caltroit, also seems very promising. However, I’m yet to hear one of his songs that really shows why he’s capable of being the next Snoop or Slim.
Bishop recently released his street single, “Feel On It,” the first official cut from his Aftermath debut, The Reformation, but unfortunately I’m not sure it bolsters his cause.

Uno!

I just watched this fake “documentary” last night about the assasination of President Bush. Shit’s crazy.
http://ssupload.com/media-366.html
yeah i need to see that too. i think it was filmed in chicago right?
Yeah, the “assasination” happened in the Chi. It’s very realistic.
man, is there a review of kanyes album on the come up? All i can think of since thursday is how disapoointed i am, I recently read a review of it on “when they reminisce” and overall sounds like he is disappointed. Sounds like kanye finaly stopped caring cause he like his lats 2 cds too much. The Kanye mixtape that came before”The graduate” wad too or 3 sick tracks on it.
Kanye owes me a cd and i didnt even buy that shit yet.
^ I never understood how people can rightly judge an album after only listening to it a few times. On a certain level, yeah it is possible but I don’t read early reviews b/c i feel like they’re unfair for alot of reasons.
Just my personal .02. I’m sure one of the other dudes is writing something on it already.
Does anybody have a copy of Alexander O’neal’s debut album? Its self titled, and it came out in 1985. Anybody that could up it, it would be greatly appreciated. Oh, in other news… that Kanye is fire.
Gotty,
thats cool, i gotcha. Truth be for me is that i enjoyed what Kanye is known for…Soulful beats and nice drums but i just am not a fan of such synthesizer super space pop lack of lyrics except about how great i am kanye. Thats all i gotta say, i am huge kanye dickrider so i will probably like it in a couple months
That’s just my stance. I don’t try to push it on anyone b/c it’s an opinion. I’ve found myself either liking or disliking an album as a whole real quick. that’s easy.
And at the same time, i can like an album and hate a certain song initially (*cough* that damn drunk girls song everybody else is loving*cough*) and probably end up liking it 3 months from now.
I am listening to it again, and aight glory is a good track too…gimme ten i will probably be lovin it
Personally I probably listened to Kanye’s joint over 20 times and I think it’s his best. Musically it’s better and I think he’s gotten better on the rhymin side. It’s already a personal classic, I can zone out to this joint, but thats just me.
Heading over to KING right now.
bishop? what about joell ortiz, i’d say he is getting more hype around him now that he is on aftermath, and he has the lyrics and flow to be the “next snoop/em/50″
on the kanye, i dig it. he went and tried some new ish, he could have put out another CD, LR, but whats good about doing the same cd over and over, but just like his first two he has some misses and some hits.
IMO
Yeah an early review isn’t worth SPIT. Music is a very subjective to opinions but opinions can’t be totally accurate/unbiased from breezing through an album (unless its just apparently ass i.e. N______Y.) Because later on down the road, songs take on certain meanings that you get from listening to em’ during your experience called LIFE. The true beauty is the artist trying pre-create these reactions/feelings and if you listen to enough music you can tell what was slapped together sloppily and what was carefully crafted while still sounding genuine…..
“but i am not just of such synthesizer super space pop….”
=====================================
Sometimes you have to listen outside the box. As stated, he could’ve made another “College Dropout” but if you’re a good enough artist to switch your stuff up without sounding like a different artist, why not do it?
“lack of lyrics”
============================
You need to listen again. “Homecoming” is exxxtremely metaphorical and its arguably the weakest song on there….
It’s usually the music that has to grow on me that I end up liking the most….Stronger is a good example of that for me. Also NERD, Common’s first 2 albums, De La’s early albums, Southernplayalistic, and even the 1st Roots album, to name a few, were all albums that i had to revisit many times before really feeling…just my .02 though.
I can’t front on Dr. Dre’s body of work, and he’s definitely a talented producer, but I think he’s very much overrated at this point. Dre has had and still has a stable of musicians co-producing tracks for and with him – Mike Elizondo, Scott Storch, Ron Feemster – to the point where it’s hard to say just how much he’s really doing these days.
He’s had his hand in some classics, for sure, but whether he’s the “most innovative man in music” or possibly of all-time is highly, highly debatable. B, I ride with my midwest homies, but you’re talking crazy talk. Nigga, are you high!? :)
Not that Dre’s in this category, but as one of my boys once said about Puff being called a producer: “That nigga ain’t tappin’ out no pads on the MP.” I’m sure Dre did his share of work in the lab back in the day, and he has dropped the most classic of classic shit, but I think if we’re going to crown him the “best ever” – on some Denny Green shit – we should also acknowledge just how much help he’s really getting.
^ I agree my dude.
Gotta give credit where credit is due. Kanye has definitely been keeping up with his lyrical exercises. He’s improving.
“Practice makes perfect.”
can someone put up that Bishop Lamont tape with Skee for me? Thanks.
Dre has bored me over the past few years and disappointed me in how many artists he’s lot damn near rot sittin on the Aftermath roster.
^co-sign, but the busta album was dope.
@RONNIE
I was present for 85-90% of the recordings for both 2001 and The Marshall Mathers LP.
This is not directed toward you but at Internet rumors in general…
I have read what you’ve shared for years now – beginning back then – and it has not stopped. But I have to ask, how many people making these claims have actually been in the studio with Dre? Probably .5% of those posting.
I have been there with him. I witnessed him playing keys (he plays piano) and tapping out pads on the MPC. He was hands on in every single facet of his productions. Make no mistake, he does not hand off production duties to others. But if someone could play the piano better than him, he would play what he wanted, and have them replay it. He was directing orchestrations.
Not to mention he’s the coolest dude I have ever met industry wise (no lie).
People have to remember what a producers role is. The biggest selling album of all time (or did it slip to #2 again behind The Eagles?) had a producer who did not play one instrument on the album (I just did a quick look of the credits).
If Quincy Jones, arguably one of the greatest producers of all time, can do it – why can’t Dre?
A Few Requests.
Lil Wyte – Doubt Me Now
Chamillionaire – Mixtape Messiah 2
3 6 Mafia – Da Unbreakables
Project Pat – Crook By The Book
This is very good to know, because I would definitely be inclined to change my stance. And I did know Dre was an accomplished piano player. But I’m not paying attention to the Internet talk. I was just looking at the changes in Dre’s production over the years, the increasing number of co-producer credits, and what those co-producers bring to the table that – like you said – they may be able to do better than Dre.
And that’s a a valid question RE: Quincy, but it’s hard to compare hip-hop and pop music production because the modern day hip-hop producer isn’t always as hands-on as pop, rock and R&B cats. I see your point, though, yet I still think Dre is currently overrated and coasting a bit on his name and rep. But to his credit, what he seems to be now is a producer in the traditional sense…and we can probably give him an “arranger” tag, too. With hip-hop, however, blurring the lines between producer and “beatmaker,” it’s hard to know who does what and who should get credit for it. And when you’re calling someone one of the best ever, if some of that credit should be shared, it should be made known.
Alright – I gotta go talk to Shuggie Otis. Maybe I’ll ask him about it. ;)
“Sometimes you have to listen outside the box.”-TC
*This coming from the guy who rags on the new Aesop.
No beef, just an observation.
someone needs to link a legit explicit version of curtis. listened to kanye’s and loved it. beats are first rate, interesting lyrics, probably the best cd I’ve heard on first listen since nas’ hip hop is dead–think it will outlast the latter as well. I want to compare it to 50′s joint which I refuse to listen to edited.
http://changetolink.com/yO5Bv
Nacho- A little too abstract for my taste. No beef kid. But Kanye’s music is very accesible and very enjoyable.
Personnaly, I believe Bishop has the potential to truly be the next big thing from aftermath. There is no doubt that Joell Ortiz has infinite potentials as a thought provoking and super solid MC, but I just don’t think he has the marketability that Bishop does. Bishops N**** Noize was arguabley one of the top 5 mixtapes of the year, and Joell’s AlBUM was definitely well put together, thought out, and produced. However, and I am speaking hypothetically, even if one was to say that Joell Ortiz was the better of the two, he will never be the heir to the aftermath throne simply because of marketability. We are no longer in the era of hiphop where just because Dre produced it or its one of 50′s boys from guint, that an album will go platinum. I don’t want to say that hype has no affect on hiphop anymore because it most certainly does, but i believe it is the combination of hype not from producers or already famous rappers, but from the people on the internet, and if we the people of rap blogging certify it as solid or worth or whatever, it then must pass the test of marketablity to the masses, and with this formula, the next great MC will emerge. Sorry if i went on a crazy tangent, but its just what i was thinking
aside from ni**a noise, can someone post up what they think is top 5 mixtapes this year?
much much obliged.
