If I look back & if you do the same, how many people were shot, killed or wounded in your city this week?

While the entire scenario is troubling to me, what is even more troubling is the countless number of people who allude to the fact that in their eyes, a human life is worth less than an animal.
As someone who loves animals (and who has owned numerous Pit Bulls who were wonderful dogs), I do not agree with what Michael Vick has allegedly taken part in at all. However, to place that level of hate for a human life above an animal is something that should be cause for concern – because I truly worry about those who hold the aforementioned mindset. They are the ones who have the ability inside of them to kill another human and feel absolutely no remorse. And if that human killed is deemed a “thug,” “drug dealer,” “gangbanger” (i.e. the n*gger that Michael Vick is currently being seen as), they will find an overwhelming amount of support from others in such nonsense (and to be quite honest, such insanity).
And according to the people that I have spoken to – that could very well be anyone, on any street, in any suburban community in America (read the ones who are “supposedly” more civilized than the “ones” who engaged in the fighting).
That is certainly disturbing to know.

Not to defend dogfighting, but dogs are domesticated animals so it’s not out the realm of possiblity that they wouldn’t fight on their own. I got a dog bite scar on my elbow to prove dogs can fall back to their instincts.
We were playing with our neighbors dog in the snow and the owner hit it with a snow ball. The dog flipped out on me and bit through my coat. I have nothing against dogs but lets not pretend that we have them completely under control.

I’ve been reading all of your comments and I’ve got to say, I’m pretty shocked with a lot of you, even Gotty.
A lot of you have basically said that you ‘don’t give a fuck about dogs so you couldn’t give a fuck whether they live or die’. That is so insensitive and ignorant IMO. They’re living beings and should be treated like we would want to be.
I know that last statement sounds a bit hippyish or whatever but seriously, to not give a fuck about a life, whether it be that of a human or an animal is an awful thing if you ask me.

I’M WIT U GOTTY. My problem isn’t the situation itself, it’s the way people put themselves on a pedestal, like they’re perfect. Do you eat meat? Okay. Do you use gas? Okay. Do you wear brand name clothing? Okay. Do you hunt? Okay. We pay a price to live in this country, and usually it’s with someone else’s blood, sweat or tears. So stay off your pedestal and slow your roll.

1.) Spell Internet correctly, then tell someone to read a book.
2.) I didn’t know this was a legal debate. Obviously if Vick did those things that are against the law, then he can and will get punished for it. But that doesn’t make one act of violence (i.e. hunting) any better than another (dogfighting)
3.) If you ever read Black Boy(one of my favorite BOOKS), you’ll remember the scene where young Richard was placed in a battle royale to fight to the finish. The victor was paid a shiny nickel.
