KRS-One & Marley Marl – Kill A Rapper
I listened to this track a few times over the weekend, glad to hear an educating & enlightening Kris Parker instead of an egotistical, “I am hip-hop” Kris Parker.
The track itself sort’ve coincides with a recurring thought that’s been in my head since the initial reports & our post regarding the Adam “Pac-Man” Jones situation.
When I first heard of Pac-Man’s most recent run-in & realized it was in Vegas, I immediately thought of Pac’s killing & said to myself “well this case will never be solved either.”
Last week, Vegas police announced that they’d be pushing the DA to charge Pac-Man with a felony coercion charge.
WTF is a coercion charge?
Basically, from my limited point of view, it’s a weak ass ruse just to charge him with a felony so that he’ll plea bargain (aka snitch) to a lesser charge. As well, it’s helping to set up what will probably be one costly civil case for young Adam.
Any ways, back to Kris’ track, the hip-hop police are pretty much in effect regardless of if there’s a specialized, named unit in place throughout our major cities’ police forces. With all or even the little bit of time, energy and resources excercised by law enforcement agencies towards keeping up with our favorite rap stars, couldn’t those same resources be used for better?
It’s pretty much understood that 85% of these rappers are frontin anyways, right?
Prince Paul – A Prince Among Thieves
Anthony Hamilton – Southern Comfort (2007)
Musiq Soulchild – Luvanmusiq (Bonus Tracks)
Devin The Dude – To Tha X-Treme
Jean Grae & 9th Wonder – Jeanius
Group Home – Living Proof
Tony Touch – Best of Boot Camp Clik on Mixtape Freestyles
The Delfonics – La La Means I Love You: The Definitive Collection
Remy Shand – The Way I Feel
New York’s Finest – The Unreleased Remixes Buckwild – Diggin In The Crates 2CD
Eric Roberson – Left

I was talking to someone about rapper johnny cash (rip) who passed recently, and they were saying “people choose this lifestyle” ect… I argued, then later that night I went to his myspace page myspace.com/thafastgunna
i think that 85% is probably a dead on percentage. i’d say about ten percent of those not included are new rappers, who do dirt to stay “active” and keep their status and cred, and then then other 5% goes towards those rappers who just don’t get that once you make it, you don’t have to keep on diggin urself deeper. ala…tray dee, z-ro, pimp c….etc.
go tigers!

And unfortunately, hip-hop goes hand-in-hand with the multitude of brothers who are dead or incarcarated as a result of violent crimes. It’s not just “hip-hop police.” There are task forces assigned to watch the Civil Vice Lords, P Stones, and Folk Nation, too.
The ills of the inner cities have pretty much set in motion how we are going to be treated by law enforcement, and hip-hop artists are under increased scrutiny because they are celebrities and ours is a celebrity-driven society. If Fallout Boy and the Shins had 50-Game-type beef, with a history of violence and gunplay between the two, do you think there would be a task force to watch them? I do. It’s not a Black thing, it’s a celebrity violence thing, which is an extension of a hood thing. The higher the profile, the more attention you’re going to receive.
I just wish this scrutiny hadn’t come so late…maybe Biggie and Pac would still be with us.
kris sayin’ ‘i’m hip hop’ aint egotistical
i’m hip hop, you’re hip hop, we’re all fukn hip hop
i dont know how’d you mix that up unless you being defensive from the get-go
i don’t think there’s much defending pac man. homie is tripping.
Joox – I aint so sure that Kris is always including all of us in his world view of hip-hop. But then again, I don’t include Kris in mine all the time nor do I need him to validate that I’m hip-hop. He’s one of those old generation of cats who needs to come down off his pedestal in order to gain some relevance again, which maybe he can do w/tracks like this.

^^^ cosign hip hop is a lifestyle and im sick and tired of the disrepect krs1 gets from this new age of hip hop fans .
respect your viewpoint gotty, krs is legendary so of course he might come off as hiphop holier than thou or some shyt and even tho some parts in his philosophy irk some folk out there most of it is on point. i’m sure you remember the thing w/ Adisa last year and I know what you’re saying for instance when he said college folk aint hip hop or some shyt, but everyones always working out their philosophy and when i read that letter to adisa i was down w/ most of what he spoke on. just from my view, hes eventually supplied enough thoughtful reason that overshadows any kind of posturing
