To be honest, the majority of my past 2-3 weeks have revolved around basketball. Either following high school teams to various tourney games or keeping track of my team (Go Orange!). And my next few weeks will be more of the same, especially with the NCAA tourney coming up :).
Therefore my listening time and patience for new material has been limited. But this week, these tracks have been in repetition…
Rich Boy Feat. Pastor Troy & Big Boi – “And I Love You”
Rich Boy stepped it up to hold his own. Thumbs up.
It was good to hear Troy’s anger ass on the track.
But the star, easily…Big Boi aka Daddy Fat Sacks aka Sir L. Luscious Leftfoot aka Francis the Savannah Chitlin’ Pimp aka Hot Tub Tony. Too manynicknames for a man with too many quotables on this track. Dude’s lyrical swag and brag have been @ an all-time high since he played in ATL, word to post-Juice Tupac.
Remember when the argument used to be how Dre always outshined Big? Can you just imagine how fierce an album would be from these two dudes right now?
Other Tracks gettin repeat play…
Devin The Dude feat. Andre 3000 & Snoop-What A Job
Not to be overlooked, the other half of ‘Kast laces the track with an artistic impression of life. Devin does his do & is right up there with ‘Face & UGK as an underrated Southern legend. Snoop has been focused man – Jay-z; I’m almost believing that it’s his number one focus again.
DJ Drama Feat. a bunch of folks – Feds Takin Pictures
In your face, “fuck you” music courtesty of Mr. Thanksgiving & friends. Stank you very much.
Lumidee Feat. Jim Jones – I’m Up
Not even sure if that’s the actual name of this track. But like I said earlier in the week, this beat is just ripe for someone to dumb out to. Lumidee & One-Eyed Willie? Well, thankful all I can hear is the beat when I listen to it.
DJ Khaled Feat. a bunch of folks & Akon on the hook – We Takin Over
Can’t you just feel summer coming on with this piece? 85 on the highway, windows down, yellin Akon’s part…
So, what are YOU listening to?

Gotty, I’ve heard most of those tracks except the Rich Boy and the Devin. The Rich Boy is still on my desktop waiting to be unzipped/expanded and I’m trying to hold off on the Devin until I get my hands on the full album. And yes, Big is definitely a beast. I’ve always thought that Big could hold his own with Dre, but people always labeled him the “weak link”. But umm…I’ve been old school so far this month:
Shyheim – aka The Rugged Child
Pete Rock & CL Smooth – Mecca & The Soul Brother
O.G.C. – Da Storm
and a few recent joints:
Joey Fingaz & Ray Cash – Clangin & Swangin
Lloyd – Streetlove
and my fav of ’07 so far…Sean P – Jesus Price Supastar
P.S. Gotty,
I’m gonna root for my school/team in the tourney too (Yellow Jackets!!), but who do you think will come out on top when its all over?? I think Ohio State is too young regardless of how good they look now and I haven’t seen a lot of the other top teams play so its hard to say. But I saw Georgetown destroy Pitt last night and I was impressed. I think they may be my early favorite along with Florida for the repeat. Gotta see what these brackets look like though.
i really dont think rich boy is fun to listen to at all. that beat is decent to listen to. i just need some more big boi and andre. when i heard what a job a couple days ago i listened to it probably 10 times after.
Yes tourney time is around the bend and who gon’ set up a TSS bracket challenge *ahem* Gotty??? I’m listenin’ to K-Os..dude under-appreciated..the strings and piano on this track are nice..
K-Os The Rain
Flo Rida. He’s Rick Ross’s new guy. I swear that this will be the anthem VERY shortly. I’ve been listening to it non-stop for the past couple of weeks.

Another hater anthem…sounds kinda like Timbaland on the boards. Could be a sequel to Lil Yola’s smash from last year.

Good looks on both of those last two posts.
Come on boys, you mean to tell me that you actually think that those “beats” have any type of soul or strength ? – seriously baby, dont you think that the music what they call “hip hop” is really getting “softer” and the MCs are just coming off hyper-agressive type-alpha personality (white male ego) to compensate for the lack of SOUL in the black community nowadays ?
^ I agree w/the alpha male comment…but that ain’t got nothing to do w/how hard some of the beats are w/some of these tracks.
T La Rock – On A Warpath, is dead link :-(
