TSS Presents Smoking Sessions With Lloyd
"Smoking Sessions With..." By Gotty™ on March 12, 2007 at 11:31 pmFor R&B singer Lloyd, the road to stardom has taken twists and turns, with high-speed chases and precise maneuvering. After coming into the game at the age of fourteen, today, the twenty year old singer/songwriter and businessman is in the driver’s seat. He commands the open road and is headed straight for stardom.

We’re always trying new things. For that reason, we give you the option to read the transcript of the interview with Lloyd…or listen to the audio version of it. If you all like this option, we’ll try to make more of these available.

Lloyd: Jabari, How you doin?
TSS: Call me Sneek man.
Lloyd: Sneek! What’s happenin Sneek?
TSS: Ain’t nothin, whenever you ready man…
Lloyd: I’m ready now, I was born ready.
TSS: What have you been doing since the release of your first album?
Lloyd: Aw man, working on a lot of other projects. Collaborating with Young Jeezy, Rick Ross, 8Ball & MJG, Lil Scrappy, Min, Lil Weezy, just working man. In the meantime I’ve also created my own company, Young Goldie Music and taking a more executive stance in my career. So just growing not only musically but business-like also. I’ve just been staying in the loop, waiting on my time to shine. The most frustrating thing about the past three years has been having to watch my peers play the game that I love knowing that I have a lot to offer.
TSS: How is this album different than your last album Southside?
Lloyd: It’s much different because I have grown. Its growth and development. Not wanting to be content with your sound, always wanting to push for more and better (music), and just realizing that change isn’t always bad. Sometimes people don’t understand it until you prove to them why its necessary. As far as change wise I brought it back home to the south and incoporated the southern sound a lot more than the first album.
TSS: You mentioned that you have been working with a lot of artists who is on this album that we can check for?
Lloyd: Lil Wayne, Andre 3000…and the rest youre going to have to have to figure out for yourself. Youre going to have to check it out March 13th (laughs).
TSS: What are some of the biggest changes you have undergone withing your life since you came into the music industry?
Lloyd: Well, I’ll say one thing about me, I’m able to touch all genders and all races now old and young. A lot of times when I go to my shows I have 21 and over crowds as opposed to when I was younger it was mostly teens, 18 might be the oldest person in the crowd.
Now, I have 24-25 year old ladies coming to the show, they enjoy the music. I’m able to touch everybody now. Everything up to this point has been a stepping stone. I have taken all that I have learned and turned it into right now.
In my opinion I think music, my music, is universal. A lot of times people classify me as one thing because of the color of my skin, the amount of bass in my music and the neighborhood where I’m from. With trying to kick down those barriers, I think I have succeeded.
TSS: Are you still on Murder Inc?
Lloyd: Yesir, it’s a joint venture between The Inc. and Young Goldie Music.
TSS: Ok, so what’s popping with Ashanti and Ja are we going to see them working with you in the future?
Lloyd: Aww yea man, we always working. We actually been in the studio as we speak.
TSS: You had the hottest record of the year, “You” with Lil’ Wayne. How was that feeling to have one of the hottest records out of the whole year?
Lloyd: The hottest joint of the year? I don’t know if you can say that. Well it’s very overwhelming. Only a few years ago it was all woulda, coulda, shoulda for me. I would listen to the radio and watch TV and just wish that I had a music video and wish that I had a song to play. And now that I’m here its like once you get a taste you never want to go home, you know what I mean? I’m here to stay, I got a lot to prove and I know that the people, my fans, and my peers appreciate the music that I make. But its very overwhelming.
TSS: Do you feel compettition from other R&B solo acts since there are so many in the game?
Lloyd: It’s not compettition, if any compettition its friendly. The problem with music today is everything is so negative. People want me to down my peers and hear everything negative I have to say about my peers so that I can be succesful. In reality we all come from the same thing and we all should inspire each other. Actually I have been collaborating with a lot of my peers, I just did a remix for this group One Chance featuring me, Trey Songz, and Bobby Valentino. I reach out all the time. Me and Sammie are good friends. I holla at Chris (Brown), I chopped it up with Omarion last night. Keeping that type of comraderie amongst each other is very very important.
TSS: Definitely. What do you think about beefs in the music industry in general?
Lloyd: Well like I just said, I think we should all inspire each other and not pull each other down like crabs in a bucket.
TSS: Now the ladies want to know Lloyd do you have a girl or what?
Lloyd: Naa (laughs) man I’m focused man.
TSS: What is the craziest thing that a fan ever did to you.
Lloyd: The craziest thing was probabbly when I put my phone number on the internet.
TSS: Oh word!?
Lloyd: I mean my phone was just blowing up. My house number. (Laughs)
TSS: I could imagine the calls at two in the morning.
Lloyd: Aw man, 3, 4, 5 in the morning. They was getting me. But you know people on the other side of the world so it was only 1:00 over there.
TSS: What’s the future looking like for you, any endorsement deals popping off?
Lloyd: Well endosement wise it all starts with this album Street Love March 13th. I have been in talks with a lot of different people. My goal now is to provide opportunity to people who have been there for me since day one my friends back home.
TSS: What’s the future looking like for Young Goldie Music? You looking for artists or what?
Lloyd: Well it all starts with my album but if it’s succesful I will be able to sign new talent.
TSS: What singers are you influenced by?
Lloyd: Influence-wise, I have a lot of influences. Beastie Boys, Beach Boys, Tupac, Coldplay, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, Sam Cook, Michael Jackson, Chilli Peppers, everybody. If you take all of these people and stir em up in a big pot you’ll come out with Young Lloyd. I grew up listening to a lot of different sounds I try not to limit myself with the kind of music that I like.
TSS: What’s a career goal for you. Something that you ultimately want to do before you hang your hat up in this game.
Lloyd: I’d like to do theatre, like Broadway.
TSS: Any movies or just theatre?
Lloyd: I have a lot of big dreams, I started off in performing arts school. Music, Drama, and Dance were three mandatory classes. Eventually I would like to venture off into other things but for now music is the first step.
TSS: When you are on tour what are some things that you don’t leave home without?
Lloyd: My phone, my vocal chords, my feet (laughs). My laptop ‘cause I always got to have my music with me. And my cousin Ryan.
TSS: That’s whats up, aight Lloyd here is your time to say whatever you want to the people, let them know what’s good.
Lloyd: I just want everybody to never be afraid to let their light shine. I am living proof and a representation to my generation that dreams come true. Street Love the album is in stores March 13th and I hope everyone enjoys it.
TSS: That’s what it is, Young Lloyd I appreciate it. I’m definitly going to cop that album when it comes out I’ve been waiting for a minute kid.
Lloyd: Thanks for having me Sneek.
TSS: Stay up.
Lloyd: Peace.

Gottyâ„¢
;)
Ronnie…naa I love my name fam but in this game I go by Sneek and a lot of people know me by that since they have been calling me it since a youngin.
The audio quality is horrible. Needs to be much better to sit n listen to this…
That’s why you’re given the option to read, John.
Enh, the quality may not be the best but 1) we’re learning by trial & error and 2) we’re doing everything given the materials we have. When that big donation falls down, we’ll cop some diff equipment & all the extras…or if I hit Powerball.
All in all, it’s (sharing the audios) an experiment & we’re havin fun w/it. I promise you some of these cats are 10x funnier than they read (Sean P. is fuckin hilarious!) so we’re lookin for a way to share those shits. If you’ve got tips, get @ us.
Wow, Lloyd sounds really…..
Haha…I was just trippin’. That happened to me once…I was interviewing Ladybug from Digable Planets, and her real name is Mary Ann, so I thought I’d be informal and was like, “How you doin’ Mary Ann?”
“Call me Ladybug.”
After I picked my face up off the floor it was all good. ;)
Ah, bad wording…I mean “formal.” Either way, I got checked.
Anyway, I happened to catch Lloyd on 106th today. Can’t say I’m a fan of his music, but he seems like a cool kid…he had Julissa vexed!
Roxi! Not Julissa…man, I’m taking L’s tonite. I think I’m getting a contact high from that picture in yesterday’s Devin post.
Rocsi… LOL!
Oh and stop it… lol… P knows she’s model material. Don’t know why she’s using that brilliant graphic design / photography talent… what a waste.
;)
Haha…that’s how she spells it? She used to be on the radio here in the CHI. I dig her…she got a big-ass mouth, though…her and Carly Simon should have an apple-eating contest. Whole apples.
I told myself it’s best if I stop focusing on P’s fineness…best for my current relationship, in particular. ;)
And I’m still trippin on Sneek checking Lloyd in that interview…lol
