And that ladies and gents, leads us to these two…I mean before “Sometimes I Rhyme Slow”, I remember me & Cookiehead (the real Cookiehead) used to rock the fuck out that blue tape. Their style was like Big Daddy Kane Light but it was their thing somehow some way…and you could tell it by the time their second and third albums dropped.
But for us, that first album was THE one.
And the video for “Funky For You”? Pssh…fahgetaboutit. I wanted to be those dudes…nice suits, fedoras, bitches hoppin around in bathing suits and bouncing…I haven’t seen it in years, but weren’t some dudes mockingly playing the horns in the back? And then…who sang the breakdown near the end of the song?
Oh man…I’m gettin warm. On to the music…
Anybody holdin that first album, scream @ me.
No relevance between those two and this joint here…except this joint used to just hound on the right speakers…
And with classic lines like..
“And if ya sittin there thinkin that you can hit me with ya whip appeal/I ain’t baby face bitch I got dick appeal…”
Man, that shit was a hit. You might just have to be from Down South though to really remember this joint…
I guess I’m dating myself by even discussing these joints, but I know I’m not the only one.
So if you old fogeys & Rap City kids are out there, name some other tracks you remember. Tell about why you remember it and if you’re feeling real generous, put the song on Zshare or whatever for everybody else to hear…
I’m going to do the Ed Lover dance for a second…

ROFLMAO! take that shit DOWN!
A. Yo.
Dizzie Gillespie Played the sax….
Hell naw!! Bust Down!
They used to play Nasty Bitch on local college stations here in Cleveland during the safe harbor hours on the weekend.
Some old obscure Rap City/Yo! MTV Rap video
The UBC – “UB Style”
Style – “What A Brotha Know” (He was T-La Rocks little brother. He was a baby Rakim)
Skinny Boys – “Skinny, Cant Get Enough” (They had energy to spare and that Engine no.9 break still gets me hype)
Super Lover Cee & Casanova Rud – “Girls I Got ‘Em Locked”
Low Profile – “Funky Song” (WC before the MAAD Circle with DMC winner DJ Aladdin. Low Profile were the LA version of Gangsarr)
The UBC – “UB Style”
====================
I remember that.
There’s a whole lot of old one-hit type video wonders…but I think I’ve partied too hard in my life to recall the names of them all right now.

Some days I slack and miss the links my damn self :|
UB Style, eh? I liked that song; had that poor man’s “The Power” break beat in the background. I also liked “A Hard Day.”

Style – What A Brother Know

A Hard Day was an ill song. They used the Underdog Theme before RZA.
Bust Down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow. This is a sad day for me. I thought (assumed) P was like… this hardcore Hip-Hop head. A “Hip-Hop” Junkie so to speak (guess she won’t get that brilliant reference, huh?).
*Sheds Tear*
I guess the P stands for Poser…
LOL (J/K P – well about the poser part at least ;)
LOL P’s cool. Slight generation gap though homie. Everybody grew up on and cherishes different shit. I should’ve showed you the rest of the convo because she referenced…nah I’ll save that for another post.
BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRNNNNNNNNNNN!

2nd II None – If You Want It
Man… Quik brought the heat back then (actually, he’s still bringing it)
P needs to go on tour…that girl is far too delicious to be confined to one city. Even the screenshots are piff.
I hate to say it but in 2007 dudes would have to put no homo on that album cover. It’s like Hip Hop is in the dark ages or something.
sorry no link but cha cha cha MC LYTE, good night
Yo, I remember a Gang Starr concert back in 94 and Preemo played “Funky For you” and when the part comes “…stick up kid is out to tax…” he dropped “Just To Get A Rep” and scratched the “Stick Up Kid” line till Guru started rhyming. The Crowd went crazy. He did a similar thing when he DJ’d for Jeru The Damaja during the same concert and he played “Throw Your Guns” by Onyx and dropped “Come Clean” right after the line “Oho, hands up cause we droppin some shit…”
and Gotty btw… I got the whole LP on vinyl and did not rip it yet, but check this blog out if you search 80ies Hip Hop. This dude might have posted it or could post it…cause I completed my Skinny Boys and MC Shy D collection there ;) http://bustthefacts.blogspot.com/
another one to check out to get original breaks like you live in a record store in Tokyo with a bunch of crazy beat diggin japanese djs is this…

Whoa, ya’ll took me back forreal.
For some reason, my mind went to another world with this post. It’s a little off topic, but who remembers the group Klymaxx?!? Man, those chicks were… well, you know. What about Madame X?!? If you remember these, you cool as hell to me. Ha!
http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/P/B00008WI7H.01._SS500_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
LOL @ Klymaxx. I remember the name but I swear I can’t remember the faces.
“I Miss U”
>LOL @ Klymaxx. I remember the name but I >swear I can’t remember the faces.
Not necessarily a bad thing. :)
Nice move G… throw sum more pics of P up and you can basically ask for anything!!… lol…
Man, SS posted that Nice & Smooth album a while back… ironically I had just coughed up $70 for the Fresh Records release of that joint on Ebay. I only had the tape… Right after you guys threw it up!!!… Man did I feel stupid because you guys always come through… but it was definitely a good buy for an OOP cd if you ask me… joint was a classic!!…
PS – also happened with Masta Ace’s – Slaughterhouse…
Can anyone repost those classics again?
Good lookin’ on that Bust Down Gotty. You called it, I’m from the dirty south and I damn near remembered every verse. 70′s baby fa real. Hip-Hop 4 life nigga!!!
