Jay’s like King Midas, as I was told / Everything that he touched, turned to gold / He’s the greatest of the great, getting straight A’s grade / Playing fame cause his name is known in every state / His name is Jay to see him play will make you say: /

“Goddamn, that DJ made my day!”

Run-DMC – “Peter Piper”

No one death is greater than the next and it’d be foolish to try to assert such. Truth be told, there were probably greater DJ’s that have passed thru the school of hard knocks we call hip-hop.

Perhaps, Jay was in the right place @ the right time because Run-DMC was one of the first groups to make mainstream American media take full notice of hip-hop. And during this time, the DJ was an actual artist, an instrumental part of the group just as important as the rappers themselves.

If you’re old enough to remember Raisin Hell and other albums by Run-DMC, then you know. If not, either start diggin and try to understand or just sit back and pay silent respect. Trust that without Jay and others, there would be no hip-hop on the radio and TV all day. There would be no endorsements or all the extras.

Lastly, there’d be no Smoking Section honestly.

Salute. God bless the dead.
