That’s why you got people walking around with these tight jeans on their shit. That shit look gay, that aint hip-hop. There’s a standard. Things that we would clown niggas about three or four years ago, now it’s alright to do that shit. It’s the standard and that’s because real niggas is letting people get away with that shit. That’s not hip-hop. These dudes walking around with these tight ass little t-shirts on and these tight ass jeans and shit and that’s it. Oh that’s the new fashion, the European cut. Come on man! We in America, you talking about the European cut. This aint Europe over here, get that shit out of here. That’s some gay ass model shit. It’s so crazy to the point where you got real motherfuckers who you lookin at as real niggas like, “Damn, this nigga even doing that, like it’s alright?” Real niggas respect it, then a square is gonna rep it.
There’s alot of intelligent insight spoken by Beans in this Fader interview…but I figure giving you a laugh first that would entice you into reading the rest because he drops alot of knowledge and info about Jay, Dame, the infamous split, State Prop…damn near everything you can think of, he speaks on it.
“Black American Express card gray now, it’s all scratched up…” – Diddy feat. Cee-lo, Nas and Kanye – Everything I Love
Press Play could be interesting, whether we like it or not.
Kanye kills the horns on this…the beat’s got an edge to it that’s reminiscent of dare I say Premo on coke…It’s good to hear Nas hittin the track w/some hunger again…

nas wrote diddy his verse. too bad diddy can’t rap for shit. beanie isn’t talking about hip-hop he’s talking about rap. R.E.A.L.I.T.Y
get your shit together b.
Yeah Beanie broke it down, esp on the whole “family” aesthetic. Real good read.
that’s right he’s talking rap and there’s a difference. besides things change. he’s talking fashion, what the hell were black folks wearing in 1965 say, tightass sweaters and tightass pants. Fine that wasn’t hiphop but “Poppa’s Got A Brand New Bag” was #1 in 1965, so heads were moving.
I’m not saying dude needs to roll out in a extra medium t but hiphop needs to let itself breathe and stop being so conservative.
If you’re reading the quote shown, Beanie is speaking on tight ass jeans.
Tight ass jeans currently in style.
But if that’s you, go ahead and do your thing.
Some people take everything they read so seriously and literally.
Yeahh Fooker
He won’t be driving a “gay ass” ferrari too I guess
Fook him ….
Agree with Gotty,
who cares what Beans thinks is fashion/style, if your comfortable with than that should be cool enough.
I’m glad he has come out and shed some light on the whole ROC situation, its about time Jay and Dame do the same thing.
Hmmm…
Something just didn’t sit too well with a white girl speaking on what black men should accept in hip-hop (and what they were wearing in the 60′s).
Sorry, but it’s the first thought and emotion that came into my head – even before I knew it was K. After that, it really bothered me.
And I’m sorry if that offends anyone. We are always apologizing for our feelings in hip-hop as it relates to other races. Many claim hip-hop is universal… but I just do not see that.
I could expand but won’t. Just know that I am being honest – I didn’t hide what I felt when I read that.
Does anybody have the retail version of Robin Thicke’s new album?
good lookin on all that bay slap
YO! Anybody got a working link for that Camp Lo?
I had a link to the Robin Thicke – downloaded it and everything (it’s FIRE by the way)… but now I can’t find it. I will keep looking.
Wow, Bean’s album is going to be crap. 2 guys playing and replaying on keyboards? Thats going to sound like trash.
“Wow, Bean’s album is going to be crap. 2 guys playing and replaying on keyboards? Thats going to sound like trash.”
I don’t get that statement. Then what is sampling to you my man??? Most of these old sampled soul records are what? Exactly… musicians playing real instruments.
That’s what hip-hop is.
Too much fashion discussion lately. Let heads wear whatever, the music is principle.
Ayo thanks for the Coup joint, respectable group
The horns are really dope as is the drum loop. It reminds me more of Large Pro to me. Thanks for the hook up on this homie.
Puffy is only listenable when someone else is writing his bars. Truth
i’m looking forward to the sound of beanie’s record. i’m interested in the live sound, but not if it’s cheesy keyboards and synths.
Can anybody re-up the Dan The Automator/DJ Shadow link, the current one doesn’t work
Enh…Beans albums have never really dissapointed as they’ve always been very VERY solid and respectable. I’m lookin fwd to another one.
Skylar – We (I) talk about everything w/no limits on what we’ll touch on. I’m blogging, music just happens to be a frequently used medium, not the only one.
yeah, tight ass jeans…fags…the big problems…good call out…*sigh*
jus’ cause his a fat ass with stubby little arms gotta hide that unda bout XXXXXXXXXXL….damn tell the man to check out the og bboy style…”intelligent insight” eh?
You know I actually considered that (the old school look) but…shit times have just changed. I don’t advocate baggy ass 3 sizes too big jeans, but I’d rather be in those than nuthuggers.
And wow @ all the comments relating to fashion when dude said so much more. smh.
Playing keyboard and sampling are 2 different things. The equipment and recording techniques of say the 70s are lost to ages for the most part. The Aesthetic found on records that were recorded analog in addition the natural crackle of a record cannot be recreated by 2 dudes with Tritons.
Fake nasty sounding keyboard is 80s R&B sounded like crap compared to the 70s.
Trying to use keyboard to emulate other instrument sound cheesy and usually have that artificial “tinginess” like damn near everything Mannie Fresh has made.
Now if Beans hired the Roots or Breakestra with an accompanying string section then it would be different.
So like I said 2 cats with keyboards is going to suck. It will be a bunch of over produced, thick textured nasty sounding garbage.
He never said that it would be 2 dudes with a keyboard.
Have no idea how you got that from what you read.
“Yeah, like right now I’m using Dre and Vidal to play the album because they don’t sample. Everything gets played live, and even if there’s something that I hear that I might want them to sample, they play it over.”
So Beans is going to hire a full piece band and everything that goes with it? Yeah, right. Unless theyre too damn talented to really be working with someone like Beanie Sigel I doubt 2 guys can play or replay stuff that a live band does.
It will be mostly keyboards when he realizes the cost of session players, etc they will do what most rappers do when they say they want “live instruments” and start using keyboards
“Gets played live” sounds to be more than keyboards (to me).
Not every producer simply plays keyboards. There are plenty who play bass, guitar, drums, horns, etc. The Neptunes are a good example of that (even though they rarely incorporate that talent).
And session players are not expensive. Plus, I’m certain there are PLENTY of cats who can play instruments really well who would do it for next to nothing.
If cats can afford to pay 25-100k for one song on the regular, what’s a session with real musicians going to cost? Not nearly that.
Yo gotty, I just meant fashion. Like on wax. I know you’re a fashion maven and you like to give advice out. I just meant it matters to much to some of these rappers.
Skylar – I’m a regular old bum. Ask my chick lol. I don’t usually rock a fresh white tee…my shits be wrinkled like a mofo lol.
I just thought Beans speaking on fashion was sorta weird b/c I’ve never seen dude as being a “fashion plate” type artist, so why speak on it?
Love is still love.
